Helps if you take out the dead fish! I spent all night cleaning that thing and didn't see the fish that was laying on top of my overflow hole at the back of my livewell! I feel like an idiot, but it restores my faith in bleach! There was no way I could've seen that thing where it was. I notice my overflow hole wasn't draining so I shot the water hose up there and dislodged the obstruction!

Been there done that, try leaving a bag of shad in there in 100* heat for a day! Bleach did the job though.

Thats funny. Been there done that, kinda. I have Triton to, About 2 months ago I was fishing and noticed water coming out of the livewell lids, I jumped back there trying to figure out the deal. Of course I was thinking the worse. "When did I hit a stump, whats broke" Thought I was sinking, started trying to figure out how long it was gonna take me to get to the ramp. Wondering what would be said at my funeral,LOL. All the stuff that gives you that bad feeling in your tummy. I got some of the water pumped out and was looking for the over flow drain. I finally found it with a crappie laying right on top of it. Man what a relief.

Left 3 perch in mine once...Forgot they were in there and got sick and didn't fish for a week (boat in dock slip). Walked down dock toward boat and could smell them several feet away....I cleaned the livewell out but it still smelled so the wife "cleaned" it for me "her way"...was a lot better....lol

Great wife!!!Mine would have told me it was a fishing problem not a shopping problem and I would have to go it alone, I assure you. She is great to give me support for my passion, but she is out when it comes to fishing. BTW in this weather I take a cooler with lots of ice and chunk em in there. Haven't lost one yet and can see them if they plug the drain....LOL

A good day fishing is not losing a jig, a bad day fishing is not losing a minnow!

I kinda thought that might be your issue, most everyone has done that at one time or another!

A fishing buddy of mine said one time his son-in-law opened the hatch next to the live well and pitched a sandbass in by mistake. A week or so later when my buddy started looking for where that smell was coming from said the sand bass had melted into a life jacket sick and almost make him blow chunks cleaning up the mess. I think to this day he hasn't mentioned anything to his son-in-law. I told him to get him a life jacket for Christmas and get a good laugh out of the whole thing.

Douche the livewell... rolfmao
That's maybe what I needed 3 years ago when I left 2 doves in my vest on the floor board of my truck for a week...still get a whiff of it to this day.

FYI You can take a bag of charcoal and cut an x in the side. Sit it in the live well for a few days and it will absorb the dead fish odor. This also works for smelly cars and realtors have used it in houses after the smokers have moved out.

Similar experience only with carp though...after a successful night of bowfishing a buddy of mine left dead carp in the boat...after a few days of baking in the sun he finally realized what he had done...needless to say, it was full of maggetts !!!
