Was the guy an award winning brewer? Not all homebrewers are equal and not all homebrew is good. LOL

As a BJCP Judge I can tell you some guys just don't get it right.

What about smoke beers, Anyone?

I love
Alaskan Smoked Porter
Schlenkerla Rauchbier Mrzen

Despise Shiner Smoke though. Yuck!

Stone Smoked Porter is one of my favorites.
Not sure if I had any others.

I tend to over think fishing. Please help me.
When I am over complicating something please kick me in the face. Hard.

Scott - You are my new favorite person. That is an amazing offer! It would definitely be an evening cause it's too hot for me to enjoy fishing in the day right now. But I am thinking about a night session somewhere soon, or on a cloudy day.

Or if you wanted, we could hit up a G-Man or Saucer some evening or weekend, I'll grab the Tab to cover the Three Floyds.

I love them in the summer time. Tart and refreshing. I just got back from the National Homebrewers Conference in Mineapolis, MN last week and visited a pub in St Paul called the Muddy Pig. They had Rodenbach Grand Cru on tap. Heavenly!

Scott, I generally tend to enjoy a good Sour, but I have to be in the right mindset for it. It's not the sort of beer I go after often, but I agree, there's something oddly refreshing about it. I've tried some of those beers you mentioned, but not all, I'd like to try the Rodenbach Grand Cru, and the Cantillion. Love me some Grand Crus in general.

I've had the Monks Cafe on draft a few times at Gingerman, it's pretty taste. I like recommending it to people who haven't tried many different styles of beer just to see the expression on their face hehehe.

I've had a few Rauchbiers and generally enjoyed them, I too like the Stone Smoked Porter.

Really, there are very styles of beer I don't tend to enjoy. ( American style light Pilsner and light lager comes to mind lol. )

Starless, with your affinity to wood aged beer, you might want to get out and grab yourself a Great Divide 16th Anny while it is available.

I'd love too, but I haven't seen one available anywhere around me yet.

Right now? I'm enjoying Gouden Carolus's Cuvee Van De Keizer Blauw. ( The brewery itself is Brewery Het Anker, in Belgium. )

Though I'm normally all about American craft breweries, there are a few other regions of the world who produce beer that's every bit as good, one of them of course is Belgium.

And of all the many belgian ales, Gouden Carolus' Cuvee Van De Keizer Blauw is considered far and away one of the best.

It's not quite Wvestvelteren 12, but from what I've read, heard, and based on the newspaper article I read about it last year, a lot of people consider it in that league.

It's essentially an 11% Dark Belgian Ale that is brewed on February 24 of every year, then aged for over one year before it's even release.

Meaning the limited batch hitting our area now was actually brewed in Feb 2009.

Look for it at Majestic Liquors, Flying Saucers, Halls, some Central Markets and so on.

If you enjoy Belgian ales, especially St. Bendardus Abt 12, or anything from Maredsous, or even Chimay, you owe it to yourself to try this beer.

It's truly fantastic. World class!

( Bret - You would you say "Well...It's not really my style...but DAMN is that well brewed. Think Benardus Abt 12 but a hint sweeter and even more complex. )

I have Gouden Carolous from 08 and 09 waiting for me in the fridge. Just cannot decide whether to do them side by side or not.

I assume it's the Keizer? Gouden Carolus is the line of beers, by Het Anker, and Cuvee Van De Keizer Blauw is the specific beer.

Given that you're part way to a vertical tasting, I'm assuming yes, hehe. If I was you? I'd drink the 09, and let the 08 age even longer to see how much better it can get.

Hard to improve on perfection, but somehow, it'll happen. Lol.

I need to go to Central Market to try and get one of those Great Divide 16th's. Thanks for the heads up!

The Keizer is the only one we are getting in TX right now, so yeah. I need to get out to the saucer with you guys sometime. I am a semi-regular there on Friday HH. Usually that or G-Man.

There's also a Keizer Rood, or Red, where is the Blauw is the Blue. Luckily, the Blauw is basically the best of the best hehe. The Blauw is their Keizer Dark, and the Rood is their Keizer Pale. 10% compared to the Blauw's 11%.

But I think you're right, we only get the Blauw here. ( Not that I'm complaining since it's their best beer! )

As for the saucer and G-man, which locations do you usually go on?
