...It would be what I had proven to me once more just the other day.

Fishing a stock pond, I was getting some bites while trying for some crappie and hybrid bluegill....weak bite by the crappie anyways, but I was not catching diddly-squat.

So I took a look at my rigging and sure-nuff my hook seemed a little dull....Switched over to a new Gamakatsu and started tearing them up! Caught what had to have been my personal best hybrid bluegill...geez I thought it was a slab crappie as it came in! Later a friend and his dad came out and spent an hour and a half in the land of frustration....watching me catch fish, while they each caught maybe 2 fish. Hee-Hee! ONCE AGAIN...it proves to me the importance of spending a little extra for a quality hook, and changing as needed. I can sharpen them here at the house, but not too good in the field. And would rather be fishing than sharpening anyways. I bet many of yall would agree with my thoughts posted here too. wink

Never have less than six feet of line out when bringing fish in. Let the rod do it's job.

Weakest links between you and the fish!
#1: Your Line
#2: Your Hook

When in doubt set hook!

Great advice from Dink-Catcher. Have seen lots
of folks reel fish to the tip and struggle to
un-hook. Unless, you need the net smile

Good point for sure. Difficult to do as a young novice fisherman I'm sure. Too much excitement going on!

You know.....after thinking about it somemore. I'll give a SECOND piece of advice that is both critical as well as difficult to convince some folks of it's importance........BE QUIET!!!!!!! SHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! LMB are especially sensitive to your presence....especially the big Hawgs! That's how they got that way. Sure, the dinks will bite with your Skynard CD blaring...but you'll be chasing so much away. I don't even like to talk above a soft voice when bass fishing or catfishing a creek if possible. Granted in a crowded lake they get somewhat used to hearing boat noise etc.

When in doubt, SET the HOOK! In other words, hook sets are free...unless you set em into a stump and break your rod laugh

Everyone knows the only music you catch hawgs too is Pearl Jam..... laugh laugh laugh

My best piece of advice is one I got when I started bass fishing. SLOW DOWN!!!

If you come home from fishing and the seat is up and the dog growls at you. YOU ARE FISHING TO MUCH.
