Met up with a guy up there this morning and tore some fish up! We caught 30-35 between the two of us, with this 7lb fish as the anchor. I also had two more 5's and he had a 5 as well with a 4lb kicker... If it wasn't a slot lake it would have been a hell of a sack!

the 4lb "kicker" is more like the baby. Nice Job, I miss fishin that lake. Used to tear it up in college, I even know where u are right there. That lake used to make me mad as well. Is there still tons of tilapia in there, we used to snag those suckers by the discharge.

Yep, still a lot of tilapia. Game Warden has been cracking down though. I don't know how you guys were snagging them, we did it with big spoons but the guys that had just tied on a weight and a couple treble hooks were getting tickets and their butts chewed!

I recently moved to College Station and have been fishing Somerville, but i plan to fish Gibbons in the next week or so. Is there any grass out there?

yep big spoons but we upsized the hooks and used the slender type spoons, when I was at school there we spoke with GW often no problems, but I could understand the weight and hook method being illegal, I was actually trying to catch bass. You could literally see hundreds of tilapia cruising the banks during the spawn. I caught several bass doin that technique by discharge (just stroke and fall), which is how I found the tilapia being on the stroke I accidentally caught some-then I realized they were stacked in there cause the cold weather. Biggest I caught in the discharge was little over 8 (bass that is). Back then you could keep the tilapia is that still the case.

Yeah, you can keep the tilapia. Don't even think there is a limit! And as far as grass, yes there is plenty this year.

I was a bigger fan of somerville though, boy do I miss that lake. Missed a many classes to be on that lake during the spring. I caught some chunks outta of there. One day I fished the tires by floating marina and literally smashed em on flipping plastics. I wanna go back now I have sidefinder and check the place out.
