Went Fishing at Raybob saturday evening and didn't do so hot. My dad and I managed 3 bass and 1 sandie. We decided the Grasslands would be a great place to catch some numbers.
Arrived at Clear Lake at 5am and fished to noon. Together we Caught 31 LMB, about a dozen bluegills (spawning), and 1 warmouth.
My dad and I split up after launching to cover more water and pattern the fish. I started off throwing topwater lures. I tried a buzzbait, spro frog, and rage frog for about 1 hour with no takers. I worked my way into the timber and fished all the way back into the upper right creek. I caught 3 small bass, 8-10 inches in length, on a strike king ocho.
I work my way out of the creek and meet up with my dad. As I paddled up to him, I watch as he grunts and sets the hook on a fish with his topwater frog. I was in shock to see him catching fish on topwater as I was unsuccessful. I watch back to back to back casts as he lands 3 LMB in a row on his YUM Buzz Frog. One of the three bass was a monster estimated between 4 and 5 lbs. The big girl jumped beside the yak as Dad was trying to lip her when she threw the bait. She was a bigun! Dad takes the lead 15 bass to 3.
I take his last bag of YUM buzzfrogs and fish the dam landing 6 bass. Dad catches one more topwater fish using a rage frog near the fishing pier.
As I am casting my topwater frog, I stumble upon a large bed of spawning bluegills. I rig up a berkely atomic teaser and cast into the bed. Suprisingly I catch a bass. In all, I catch 4 four bass on the atomic teaser along with a few bluegills. I'm catching up as the bass count is 16-13.
A father and son in a kick boat join us and we all witness something rather surprising! Schooling bass busting out in the middle of the lake. We threw everything in the Tackle box with no takers. As noon was approaching switched to soft plastics and fished the grasslines in about 10 ft of water. Dad catches 2 more bass fishing deep with a Yum Bigshow craw. I happen to find another group of bluegills spawning. I switch to a topwater dry fly and watch the oversized bluegills ferociously attack the intruder on my ultralite setup.
As we are getting ready to leave I catch a warmouth at the boat ramp.
ON A SIDE NOTE: I flicked a very large spider off of my kayak. The spider scurried across the water looking for a dry place to perch when a bass no more than 2 feet next to me crushes him for a mid morning snack.
I took many pictures of the lake to show you sports fans the different types of structure, aquatic plant life, and how amazingly clear the water is.
