Gonna be at Surfside in Mid-July and wanta do a little fishing over at the San Luis Pass Bridge area. Just having some fun...usually throw a silver spoon when fishing off the bank. Really need some tips on different lures, baits etc....not really looking to do much but have a little fun and maybe catch something. Live in NE Texas but have fished offshore some and Jetty fished in Florida....appreciate any help for a rookie....

Spoons are a good choice to start with. I've been doing well with the TTK plum/chartrues soft plastics. Reds, Trout and Flounder. Fishing bait: Live shrimp #1 but you'll need to have a good air system or keep them in the water to keep'm live. Dead shrimp or squid if you want to keep busy catching.Never know what will hit it. Fishing from the bank or wade fishing the early morning and late evenings are prime time. There are some areas around the County Park at the Pass that have lights at night. Fishing for trout around these lights can be a blast. Talk to the staff at The Brite Lite bait store they can be helpful fishing the Pass area. Hope ya have a good trip.

Eat at the Wind Swept in Oyster Creek for dinner. All you can eat Sea food and the best fried schrimps on the coast. Priced right to. As for fishing I cant help on the beach or inshore.
