Lake Conroe is a much better lake now that the grass is gone. Look at some of the limits being caught....on average you had better have 22lbs+ of fish to even have a chance. The grass has been gone now for over 3 yrs and the fishing just keeps getting better.

A lot of the old timers said that the fishing was hot after the grass left in the 80's but soon dropped off after 1 yr. Well this time the fishing has stayed hot.

I would much rather have the grass. Lakes that do not have as much grass can have bigger bags, but when you look at lakes like Fork and other East Texas Gems, they all have good grass

Yes, the first time they put the carp in the fishing was unbelievable for short period of time. The fish could not spread out through out the grass, so they had to concentrate in smaller spots. Lots of big fish, easy to catch. But, just like last time, this time will prove the same results, fishing after the explosion of fish, it will decline. Because the number of bass surviving will decline creating tougher fishing. This was the cycle last time. Fish are bunch up right now, due to the grass being gone. It will be another 15+ years before Conroe will be back again.

Yeah but Purtis was supposed to be one of the gems of TPWD, catch and release only for bass, prime genetics from share a lunker, surely removing the grass was part of their master plan to create the monster bass??? right??? rolleyes

That is one fish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Of course I love grass, but in the correct amount, when you have good grass in places it concentrates the fish. But when your entire lake is almost solid grass it can be a real Biotch

I don't know how any lake had Bass in them before Hydrilla.
Of course Grass is a good thing.
That is untill the entire lake is full of grass.
We had the best spring in 10 years on Caddo this year because you could actually get to the fish.

Taking grass away also shrinks a lake .I am speaking from the standpoint of the fisherman. When there is no grass in a lake there are not as many places to fish.Grass spreads the field. A small lake like Tyler is turned into a lake where the locals really have more of advantage and they usually rule. The know where the brush piles are and what hidden cover there is. The water is always clearer with grass.Look at Cypress. No grass and it got a little muddy. It may help the fish at first because there is no place for bait to hide but in the longrun the fishing will begin to decline.

The locals on Tyler usually win regardless if there is grass in the Lake or not. They win on other lakes pretty consistently too. There are some very good anglers from this area.

this is wrong on so many levels. no cover = no place for bass fingerlings to hide = population decline. grass also concentrates fish, they dont roam as much as they do on banks that are bare. id like to know where you got your information from.

Conroe also has boat docks every 5 ft.

Just look at Ray Roberts since the grass has pretty much died off. I can't forget when the flat by Wolf Island had all the grass you could have a great day right there. Now it is tough to find them like that out there..
