The tank we go to is around 85 degrees and 24' deep. I was marking fish between 7-12 feet this last trip in open water but could not get anything to bite. with the water that hot are they so sluggish it has to be in their face just sitting there or will they still move to eat? we threw crankbaits and swimbaits to no avail. just looking for some advice on what presentation to throw to a fish suspended at 12 feet in 20 feet of water and not aggressivly feeding?

Maybe this is just me....but in ponds "early and late" are feeding times for the predators. They really shut down in direct light and will not feed except in low light conditions.
Was out fishing last evening at dark 30 and hooked a small bluegill on a tiny fly...the bluegill never made it to the bank as a huge bass devoured it and kept going with my fly. They will definitely feed in low light and even at water temps above 85 degrees.

I see what youre saying the problem is the pond is around 20 acres so if you are not on them early then you missed your chance and have a hot day to figure it out. I would have loved seeing that perch running for its life with a hook in one end and a bass chasing the other

I would try some shakey heads and a carolina rig. Wait till a calm and cloudy day and throw topwater stuff. Ive heard throwing wacky senkos is really good for hot summer days but in the ponds i fish i havent had much luck. Or just dont fish during the heat of the day and throw top water stuff some more. During the winter when fish are sluggish ive heard that jerkbaits can get lazy fish to move so that might work well for you. Depending on how deep the fish are that day.

Also the fish are tight on the cover. Also try a spinner bait

Remember the Dr Pepper hours, 10 2 and 4, and of course dawn and evening.

if suspended use a drop shot in their face, the weight doesnt have to be on the bottom to be a effective rig, very little movement and keep it in their face and small natural looking baits. In heat during the day they dont feed much so they wont really run after a bait so keep it there and change baits and colors till you find what they want.
