I have night fished for ever on Lake Belton. Clear water seems to be better for me. Nothing like catching a fish at night. Never know if you have a big ol LM, SM, or even a rock head (drum). It is awsome. I have always used dark colored worms, spinner baits, and cranks, but I have seen guys catch them on just about any color. A lot of people use black lights, if you use a fluorescent line like Stern clear blue, it will make your line look as big as a rope. Kind of cool but a pain if you switch sides of the boat. Good luck.

You need a hand held spot lite for running at night. Make sure it has enough charge to get you where you are going and back.

I always try to make a trail during daylight hours with my gps.I would not run like I do without it.And I still dont run very fast. I have the light close to me so if I see a boat coming I can make sure I am seen.I am a chicken. Plenty of bug spray. Good spotlight .I have some small lights I got at Academy that I can clip on my shirt that I really like. Its always handy.I dont like the lights that go on my cap. They never shine where I am looking. Can never seem to get them adjusted just right. I have seen what can happen when 2 boats get together at night. BE CAREFUL. Some people dont turn their lights on at night. I like spinner baits and big worms.

- bring some skeeter spray. - go with a partner - use your head when running the lake. if you dont know where you are, or what might be poking an inch out the water, slow down... its not worth trying to save an extra 2 minutes to rip off your lower unit running balls to the walls. the females your trying to impress by going fast cant see you anyways. - white attracts bugs when light hits it. - darker/ louder/ heavy vibrating baits catch fish at night, but so do the baits you throw during the day. - fish areas that have close shallow to deep transition areas like points, humps, steep banks, all that good stuff. - take a camera and scale. night fishin is a great time to catch a PIG this time of the year. for a long time my personal best was caught at night

I've heard people using fluorescent bulbs in the water at night to attrack bugs >>> bait fish >>> stripper.
Does this work for Bass too? Yes!! Works for any predatory game fish. Bass, Catfish, and Stripers in the area will come around to see what's going on. If you can find a dock or bridge with a light hanging over the water FISH IT. If it's a light that comes on regularly you have a hot spot for the whole food chain. Bugs are attracted to the light every night, that attract's smaller fish and frogs. The bigger fish follow soon after for the easy meal. When I used to saltwater fish in Galveston Bay, Chocolate Bay, Lost Bay, and Chocolate Bayou areas there was an industrial dock used to load large ships. They were closed at night so it was safe to be in the area. It had some security lights out on the dock that were on every night year round to keep away thieves and vandals. Not sure how many other fisherman knew about it at the time, but IT WAS AWESOME!!You could see clouds of baitfish balling up around the light, then get chased away frantically by bigger fish. It almost felt like cheating. We'd use mostly swimbaits, spooks, and mirrorlures. You could literally fish it off and on all night. It would be hot for a while and then cool off for a while. But we'd catch Spec's, Red's, and Flounder all night long. Fishing till you can't lift your arms is a great way to spend a night.

Lot's of good information here. Go on or around a full moon the first few times, I promise you will enjoy it much better. If you go through my post from the last few summers, you will find some good tips there too. I've got over 3000 hours logged guiding at night fishing since 2004. It really can be fun and rewarding.

I like to have an extra bow and stern light, the ones that run off of regular batteries and just clip on to something, you can get at academy. They can save you in a pinch if you lose power out there and don't have any lights on your boat for safety.
I also have the LED lights on my boat decks both front and back and in my compartments, they really come in handy when switching baits, etc.
You can't have too many flashlights when night fishing!

The single best advise is be quiet ! I have more luck with the graph off at night because they can't hear me coming.

almost forgot, you do have to have all lights working you are not allowed to turn them off just because you are fishing behind the marinas. we had 2 teams get ticketed for not having thier back light in while fishing behind the docks at lowes high port marina on Texoma

I also have a light that I suction cup to the (bank side) of the boat, it is made for fishing at night to help see the bank for casting. Do you have a link for this? That's one of the reasons I hate fishing after dark, but that sounds like the solution. Hopefully this link works for you. I have the black eye nightblaster it has two lights white flourescent, and a black light on the other side http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&...ved=0CC0QzAMwAA
