Do you need lights besides the standard night lights on the boat? If you don't then do you just not stray to far from your dock? Seems like it might be hard to nav at night.
Do you anchor down when you night fish? How deep are you normally fishing?
Any other things you might want to point out would be great. This heat is forcing me to try the night fishing!

Im interested in hearing some of these responses too Chad711. either way I bet one has got to really know the water. My boat costs too much to learn off of. I need many night trips in someone elses before I fly off into the middle of darkness.

just be careful and take it easy.. most of the night fising i do is on Fork, so you have to be careful, but it can be done safely. I rarely go over 40mph at night, but that's what you're comfortable with. Be mindful of other boaters and slow down when passing at night and expect the unexpected, like idiots running down the lake with no lights on whatsoever. If you don't have working lights on your boat, your boat shouldn't be on the water at night. That can and has gotten people into dangerous situations before. I try and carry a spotlight and try not to blind others with it.. turn your depthfinders on dim so you can see a little better. black/blue 10" power worms are a good thing to have tied on at night

i fish the same way at night, as I do daytime- with excpetion to NAV or ANCHOR lights being on. NAV lights need only to be on when moving around. i concentrate on the outside edges of lighted docks with the same baits I use in the daytime.

Iahvelearned that if you fish at night on Lake Fork, you will need big line and big bait. The darker the better.

I always have a hand held high powered spot lot that I can use while running, I also always have a 3led lightband on my head that I can turn on and off easily to do things. I also have a light that I suction cup to the (bank side) of the boat, it is made for fishing at night to help see the bank for casting. And I never anchor down,,,sometimes you just gotta pick up your balls and pull away from the dock, lol but you better know where your going!.

I've heard people using fluorescent bulbs in the water at night to attrack bugs >>> bait fish >>> stripper.
Does this work for Bass too?

I night fish Fork just about every weekend in the summer. Other boaters are the most dangerous thing out there. I leave my nav lights on even if i'm anchored or tied up hoping I won't get ran over. You didn't say where you were going to be fishing, but keep in mind things look different at night and it's real easy to get turned around. If you think you're in a boat lane you better be sure before you hammer down. Far as fishing, big dark worm with a 1/4 oz tungsten weight has been doing it for me. I think the big bass hug the bottom at night and like the way the weight bumps into things.

I doubt I would go far enough to lose my barrings.

1 Know the area well you plan on fishing. 2 Let others know where you will be and have a phone. 3 Be prepaired to stay out until daylight in case of a problem. 3 Colorado blade spinner baits are my weapon of choice. 4 There is absolutely nothing to fear at night that can't happen to you fishing during the day. I'm more affraid of being run over during the day on Fork than I am at night .

Don't assume you can find your way back if there is no moon. GPS is important if you're not use to night fishing on a lake, no matter how easy it is during day light. It's a totally differiant world.

night fishing has been awsome, i started doing this in 1996 with the Gainesville bass club. if fish bite it during the day they will bite it at night too. we usually fish aroung marina's and docks. but some bare banks are better because there is less boat traffic to desturb the fish. lake dams give up lots of numbers too, us just have to have plenty of tackle to feed the rocks some nights. the closer you are to a full moon the better, good numbers of fish move up to feed during the full moon phases and you can troll down the bank with less troubles. if they wont hit a fast moving bait like spinner baits and crank baits, than slow down with soft plastics and fish as if it is winter, if you cant feel your worm bumping anything your fishing too fast. if you need more info just send me a pm. theres no better way to beet the heat and enjoy fishing during the summer. thanks
