Recently picked up my first baitcaster rod/reel combo from dps. I've looked at how to set the brake and stuff like that, but I still have quite a bit of trouble with backlashes. Is there any advice or tips you'd offer a newbie like myself?

try it with the brakes all the way on at first till u get used to it, also adjusting your cast control knob to where if u lift the rod at a 45degree angle and let the bait fall to te floor until u get little no no overrun and try it out that way till u get used to it while thumbing the spool lightly,, ull get it down once you practice with it just give it time. it took me almost a whole day to figure out my first baitcaster.. and like stated above youtube has good videos on this
