but tonight i'll have pics i catch this thing that is golden like a carp, but looks like a grasser, but only caught them up to about 3.5pounds, any ideas they are like an oversized gold minnow, and i just don't know what it is because they have the carp dorsal fins but no sucker type mouth....i was thinking possibly golden shiners, but i don't believe they're in texas are they?

Gonlen Shiners are here, they've been used for bait for a long time. I've caught 1/2 pound golden shiners before.

i have no clue what they are but they school like minnows and the definition of a full grown golden shiner states they can get to weights in excess to 2.5lbs. I'm going to catch some tonight I just can't take the daytime heat right now.

Donny's probably right. If they look just like grassers, and they're 3.5lbs...they're probably young grassers.

if they're grassers why would they be in a few public ponds in great numbers that have very little grass other than field grass?

Possibly because local cities or officials think it's a good idea to stock them to keep the vegetation from growing? Not everyone who runs things knows what they're doing lol. Sometimes they just end up stocked by local organizations to keep their ponds weed-free and "clean". There's at least one pond in Dallas that is stocked by a local home owners organization. They're legally stocked and all, I just mean it's sometimes local groups rather the TPWD that go through with the stocking.

If it's not grassers, you'll have to go catch one and get us some pics to identify.

Otherwise, it could be a massive golden shiner, a weird bronze shad, or who knows lol. Grasser still sounds most likely.

Yes there are golden shiners in texas, I have not caught them in lakes, but I have seen them in farm ponds up to a pound or better. Do your fish look like oversized crappie minnows but golden with red tinted fins?
