I have been experimenting with diffrent jigs and tubes and was wondering what jig heads for tubes and rocky top solid body jigs ya'll use. My wife and Kids ordered me some SlabmeSilly jigs for fathers day and I recieved them on saturday just in time to try them out saturday evening and they were great. My son and I caught about 15 but all were small, just couldn't kick the wind. Happy fishing to all

Thanks pepop. I think I'll get me some of those along with some rocky tops and see if they will last longer than the tubes I have been using. I have never used the sickle hooks till yesterday when I fished with the SlabmeSilly jigs and I didn't loose as many fish as I usually do. Again thanks for the info

I use just plain head unpainted heads in 1/32oz and 1/16oz on all my soft plastics for crappie. Never tried the sickle hooks but have tried the bleeding hooks and didnt like them. But they were the walmart brand and kept losing fish on them so threw them away and went back to my others and didnt have the problem anymore. To me painted jig heads doesnt matter to me but im sure others would disagree on that topic. Only time i use painted jig heads is when im either fishing big sassy shads for hybrids and fishing jigs for walleye up north. Everyone has their own opinion and its all come down to experience with a certain jig head. To me as long as they are sharp and keep a eye on them they all work equally well.

For all my plastics, I use minnow head jigs with sickle hook. from Tommy Crenshaw. Look Here +1I have just started buying Tommy Crenshaw Hooks. I was losing way to many fish at the boat with Wal-Mart brand (felt they weere to small #4). I have also increased my hook sized and reduced the loss of fish to very few. I have bought the 1/16oz weight, #1/#2 size, and Sickle Type Hook, and they have been deadly. The #4 Hook size on baits like Rocky Tops, I do not believe leaves enough space/gaps between the side of the tube, and point of the hook. So I increased the hook size to #1/#2 hooks and have been very happy so far. keith

I get all my hooks in a round ball head from Finny Tribe Jigheads . Usually I get #2 sickle in 1/8th oz. I am thinking about going to a 1/8th oz #1 for the 3" Rocky Tops. Good folks with fast shipping!

I use the Round Head Jigs w/Barb from Crenshaw. I also like the #1 & #2 sized Sickle hooks. During this time of the year and through the summer, until about October, I use the 2" Rocky Tops with a 1/16oz Jig Head.
Once we get to October and the fish seem to get a little more agressive, I will go to a 1/16oz on a 3" Rocky Top. During that time of year is seems as if the crappie are feeding for the winter, and start knocking the snot out of jigs, so I start fishing a little bigger baits.
I also will use 1/8oz Jigs, but normally use the heavier weighted jigs when the wind is up, or I am fishing in 18+ feet of water. I like a little more weight to keep in better contact with my jig.
I like the #1 sickle hooks, but you usually need to be able to special order them from someone like Crenshaw that makes his own, and will make you exactly what you would like. #2's will do a good job, I just personally perfer #1 Sickles.

These days, I am exclusively using my hand made lead-free (a bismuth alloy) jig heads. They work better than anything I've ever used before, and I plan on starting to sell them soon.
My wife and I both being cancer survivors made me start taking a closer look at all the hazards we endure, and I decided that lead just didn't need to be one of them any more.
My favorite jig head is a 1/16 oz tube jig head, but I also use round head tied jigs quite a bit, too. When I'm fishing vertically, I prefer to stay with a smaller jig head and put a split shot (pure tin, which I also make) 3 to 5 inches above it.
