Just wondering about cooking up snapping turtles? How do you cook them and how good are they? Do you need a certain size to make it worth eating? I have always wondered about this and heard stories of people that do eat them. Any info will be helpful. Thanks

You need a special license to harvest turtles now. Alligator snappers are protected.

I ate a lot of snapper turtle as a kid but that was in Iowa.
My grandmother just breaded it and fried it like chicken.
I loved it.

We always put them in like a kiddie pool with clean water and let them stay for about 6 weeks so it would clean them out. Mud in their system. We fed them. After that we would kill them and remove all the meat. Snappers and the soft shell are relly good eating.

Yeah I don't think it's legal to harvest them anymore. But my grandpa used to put them in fresh water for a while otherwise they taste pretty vile.

Use to eat snapping turtles while growing up in Kansas. They are a pain to clean but the meat is very good, kind of on the greasy side but the odd thing is they have several different textures of meat within one turtle. And you end up getting a lot of meat out of a decent size turtle.

Another site says to get the turtle to bite a stick, and stretch his neck out while hes attached to the stick, and chop his head off...

It is illegal to kill any turtle in Texas. There is a moratorium.
