I would seriously look at the Cabelas Watershed. It is actually the discontinued Ross Rhythm. Very Light and durable. Watershed

Well if it is JUST BETWEEN THOSE TWO...I'd definitely say the ROSS. No doubt about it.

Not to throw a curveball, but if you are going to compare a Ross Evolution to a Lamson, you should compare it with the Litespeed. The Guru 2 is a sub $200 reel, while the Evolution 2 is $275. The Evolution vs the Litespeed would be a more reasonable comparison in my opinion. Yes, the Guru and the Litespeed have an identical drag system, the Litespeed has a larger arbor and the coating (type III anodization.)You can not go wrong with either reel and at the end of the day it is you that is going to be using, and depending, on the reel of your choice.

I have a Sage ZAxis with a Ross Evolution, and it is a great combination. The balance is great and the mechanics of the reel is great as well. I've put about 200 hours on the pair, and I have no complaints. I had the Konic on another rod a year ago and I sold it with a few others to upgrade to my current setup.

ive looked more into the allen reels and i like them a lot. i really like the alpha series but i like the frame spool design #2- the one pictured at left when you click the fly reels like and the alpha series link, not the one with all the circle holes in it. i like the trout series also. any place i can get my hands one on to feel it? does it have an incoming/outgoing click? does the drag click when you adjust it? does the drag hold?
i know its a small company just starting up but ive read nothing but excellent remarks about their reels so far. have heard of ppl selling their ross and lamsons once they got their hands on one allen. these things are cheap as hell too

I have the Lamson Guru, Lamson Litespeed, and Ross Evolution. Of those three, I would take the Evolution as the best-crafted (and lightest), but the Litespeed as more rugged. The Guru is a bit heavy for my taste, and doesn't balance well on my smaller rods.

Litespeed. The drag can't be beat. Great warranty service from Lamson, too. If it makes a difference, the Litespeed will hold more backing than the Ross Evo LT.
