My son and I got out this morning. We went to De Cordova dam on the Brazos River. I caught my first stripped bass, but did not get a picture, but I did get a picture of black bass that I caught on a gray Clouser Minnow. Not a monster or anything, but still fun to catch....

There were alot of vultures around, and I wonder if that had to do with the golden algae bloom on PK upstream or if there are just alot of vultures around the dam.

Mr. Graves tells the story of camping under a buzzard roost near that area with his friend Hale during one of their youthful excursions. Probably some of their descendants. Beautiful water, by the way.

Now that you mention Mr Graves, I remember him mentioning buzzards. Ugly birds, but beautiful water especially the first pool down stream of the dam.

Its nice to get out and do some fishing. That is a pretty handy location from Fort Worth.

What is the access to the below-dam area like?

You have to hike in a little. Less than a mile to the river, but the trail down is a little rough. I forgot my wading boots on this trip so I was in a pair of crocs. These make cr@ppy wading shoes, so the hike in might have been a little tougher than normal. Bare feet and broken beer bottles don't mix well.
