Finally got the yard done & misc.errands and headed out to Grapevine to kill an hour or so .It was howling so decided to bank fish the Murrell Park banks.Started about 2oclock caught fish until I was tired mostly sandbass nothing under 1 i/2 lbs.with a few black bass mixed in.Caught fish on 1st cast but kept getting backlashes throwing into the wind usually would have a fish on as I untangled my line. Was using a 1/4 oz.white vibraic rooster tail.I doubt that I invented this but put on a 3/8 bullet weight and a 12"leader and just slow rolled it through the schools.Saw just a couple of boats rocking and rolling they were on fish also poping slabs as best I could tell, may get some dinner and go back out till dark.If I can slip out before the lil lady comes home with more projects.

Rudy - Which area were you fishing at Murrell Park? I spent some time at area #2 there recently and did okay, but didn't see any schooling.

I had the best two days of fishing sand bass in my life this week on Grapevine. Wed. and Friday. I caught 96 on Wed. using a slab on the north side amung shools working that shore! Birds everywhere, both days. On Friday my brother and I caught at least 100 the same way, most small but some good size. I kept dragging the anchor Friday due to the wind. Great time.

We braved the main lake on Saturday in a 1956 Lone Star 14 ft V hull with a 25 hp Johnson and we got the s**t kicked out of us for the hour or two we were out there, but it was worth it. We were tearing them up on top and throwing everything we thought about measuring back and wound up keeping 32 nice sandies. We caught at least double if not triple that and hardly had a cast without a fish. Even if you missed the first there would be a second or third or fourth. It was great put scary. We finally decided at 1:00 that the waves were getting worse and we better go. We had already done pretty well in a cove on crappie before we started fishing for sandies between 11-12. Even had one crappie over 14" that was a monster. Great day and I need a bigger boat.

Waterdawg,I'm really bad with direction, but there are two boat ramps at Murrell the one closest to where I was you can see the dam,the other is in a cove!Stoped off this morning,Mon.about 9:30 and they were still there not as large as last week, still keepers really aggressive fish .I picked up a 1/2 oz.white rooster tail at BPS so I didn't have to use that c-rig thing I was catching them on last week.Wind still blowing pretty good so you couldn't actually see them schooling, but you couldn't slow roll that rooster through there without them knocking the s*** out of it several times before you had a hook up.Several asian guys fishing with shad they siened were getting their big surf rods doubled over as well!If I could make money doing that I would still be there, drug myself off to work at 10:45,probably caught a dozen or so ,wasn't keeping them so lost count.Good Luck Rudy

I'll never understand how everyone on this forum can catch fish on this lake except for me. And I live walking distance from the place!
