if you can figure out a method to consistently get them to take a fly I would be very interested. Its been my experience that they are just not as aggressive when presented with a chance to eat a fly

yes, I chase e'm around at Texoma a lot. I have seen a woolly bugger variant with lead eyes take some, but I have never caught one on the fly

Since they are known to follow shad and hit slabs, why not try a streamer or other minnow imitator?

I've caught plenty of small buffs on crappie jigs. I would suggest a dog nobbler fly in chartruce or white with a black head and fish in a dam trailrace when the water id flowing but down somewhat. http://flyfishwales.co.uk/trout-flies/dog-nobbler/

Well as the forum's only previous holder of the IGFA 2# tippet world record for buffalo on the fly, I can tell you, they don't eat them very often. But they will. The really like that Sucker Punch fly for some reason
When I gets the cravin to chase fat girls, I call on Bass Bug

I've caught them on my arnj crush fly as well as a roughfisher nymph variation. Like Dave said, they aren't easy to catch but will take flies. Your best bet is to fish a tailrace
