 Alligator Gar and New PB Longnose

I went down to my little honey hole on the Sabine River this afternoon for a short trip, just fishign off the bank. In 4 hours I had four runs and put two fish on the bank, for a 50% run to catch ratio(really high for gar). First I caught a 55" or 4'7" longnose gar which probably tipped the scale somewhere in the low 20's. Around 7:00 I got a run but the fish dropped the bait before I got my other rods in. Around 7:30 I got a run, got my rods in and struck. This time I felt the weight and I new I had hit pay dirt. After about a 5 minute fight and a partially ariborn fish(very cool, wish someone was taping it) I got my snare around a 6' gator gar. I took several pics, but its going to be a while before I post them because they are on a disposable camera, wife has the digital and she is out of town.

Very cool! I'd like to fish for those someday with you. Keep up the catching! Won't be long and it will be primetime, we just need the rivers to dry a bit. I look forward to the pics

i have really wanted to try to catch some gar.. when I am out on toldeo bend at night at night i see so many gar just right under the surface.
what do i need to do to catch them... how do i target them...??
