drowning........

but if you'd rather not do that, keep your bow pointed into the waves by either a sea anchor or under power

small boats should stay near shore or not go out all imo

Pay attention to the conditions. If it starts to blow head in. Don't wait till it becomes really bad before you decide to reel in and head home. You can always go back as long as you make it home in one piece the trip before. welcome to the TFF.

Either you are a good driver and can work the throttle into the waves. Just keep the bow up. Worse thing you can do is take a good one over the bow and get swamped.
If you aren't a good driver, you will learn quick.

You can also turn and go with the waves reguardless of direction if it is a small storm just while it blows through.

If you headed out north or south from the jetties, just get to the beach. Most of the time, the storm will be blowing out of the west or north. Both of which will result in a flat surf, so you can get real close to the beach and then run back to the jetty.

Just DON"T GET IN A HURRY. I'm all for taking out small boats offshore. You just have to have your head on your shoulders and not get in a hurry. Take it slow and you will be fine. During a good storm, you WILL have a pucker factor, but you can make it in.

Sorry, can't sleep, hopefully this makes some sort of sense?

I was wandering if you get caught in high wind and you need to take it head on for your return course is it better to tack back and forth at quartering seas seems like boat would take seas better quartering.

Personally, I try to go straight into the waves, keeping my bow up. You will get beat to he**, but you have a better chance of keeping the water out of the boat.

The worse thing is being hit on the side with a big wave, at least in my boat, the sides are quite low to the water. I have taken a "rouge" wave from the side and it almost knocked us out of our boat. Like a fool, I let my older brother drive and he was not paying attention. Let's just say, he does not drive anymore, unless we have glass seas. lol

I agree with Cody, there will be some pucker factor moments, but keep your eyes on what is in front of you.
