Living west of Houston in Katy, Lake Livingston is about the closest lake to fish for stripers. I saw on the TPWD site that they have been stocking stripers there for years and have stocked them in 00, 02, 03, 04 and 05. I tried to get advice from a Livingston fishing board and received a cold response. I need some advice on how to fish for them this time of year. I fish a lot for whites and hybrid at Somerville even though Somerville has a lot of small hybrids right now. Any advise would be appreciated.

Keith, this time of year the stripers are looking for cooler waters probably out in the main lake. You really need a good graph to find them. Best technique is either live shad, or downrigging. But you need to do some looking around with the graph. Try off a point that goes out to deep water or a river channel. Look for birds working the top......... fish UNDER and around the outside of schooling sandbass. Also the sides of lake humps that rise up from deep water to within 10-15 feet of the surface.

My website listed below may give you some help in locating and catching stripers and hybrids.

Good luck. smile

Joe, believe it or not I have only fished Texoma TWICE in my entire life..........once when I was about 12 years old and 2 years ago when I was 56 years old!!!!! smile

Really have stuck with Tawakoni-Ray Hubbard because of where I live and business means I only have 1 day at most to go fishing.

I have looked at SOG website but again I never fish Texoma............also keep in mind that when I first started the site back in 1997 I lived in Temple, Texas and fished Belton and Whitney.

In fact the hybrids and sandbass in the picture below are from Lake Belton.

Boatman, well 2 years ago makes you 58 (or so) now and me 66...two old farts that could probably have a good time out on the Texoma waters catching fish together. We can fish from my boat and I have a place for you to stay if you want to come back for some good fishing...joebear

HAVEN'T FISHED LIVINGSTON SINCE '89 BUT DID WELL ON STRIPES NEAR THE DAM. WE DOWNRIGGED HALF OUNCE JIGS AND CAUGHT SOME UP TO 12 POUNDS THERE, SEEMS PRETTY CLEAN TO TROLL IN THAT AREA. LIVE BAIT, PERCH/SHAD SHOULD WORK WELL TOO. DON'T THINK THE STRIPES ARE FISHED TOO HARD THERE, SHOULD BE SOME GOOD OPPORTUNITIES TO CATCH SOME GOOD SIZE AND NUMBERS.

Keith, I don't know that lake at all, but up here in the North Land, for surfacing stripers.....GO EARLY IN THE DAY.....on the water at daybreak. Take binoculars. Ask some of the regulars and, perhaps, someone at the marinas, where the fish are.
