Thanks all for the reply. Does anybody know if there are any overnite small shack or cabin type rentals on the lake.

jpmull78, I know that overlook park has some cabins call 979-289-2321. HL&S your info. is great. It is nice to hear someone who appreciates fishing enough to share their experience with all. I will be on Somerville next week with the kids and hope to give it a shot. Gig 'em and thanks for all the updates.

I am headed out this weekend to give it a shot. I will be at Birch Creek on Sat. Morning, 6ish. I will be the guy that look like a total fishing newbie, LOL... Late model "pewter colored" 'burb with the Texas flag bowtie and some Aggie paraphanalia on the back. Good thing I live close to the park. That way if I come back empty I will not feel too bad.

Had to fish real hard and long for these Saturday with all the boat traffic driving them crazy! I waded close to a mile or more of bank before I got the first small fish then at around noon I found these holding off a point and making runs at the shallow water where I could get at them. Caught almost everything on a roostertail. The wind was terrible out there Saturday. Not to many pictures today but there are a few on My Photo Archive

Chris,
I have been fishing with HL&S for a couple of years, he has yet to tell me his catching secrets ;-) He does often put me on the fish but he often out fishes me by a mile.

It's no secret really, I just fish every time I get the chance so I never get out of touch with what the fish should be doing That and going further and looking harder when I can't seem to find the fish. I could have given up on Saturday after going fishless for the first three hours and covering a mile or so of shoreline! This was all where we had just caught 100+ combined the prior Sunday and Tuesday. I think the boat traffic really puts the shallow water spawing fish in a spooky mood. It wasn't until I got to a place where no one was fishing much that I found the whitebass running in shallow water. If I had not lost my special roostertail I'd probably could have limited out but certainly don't need that much fish! It seems to be an afternoon bite right now and this next week should be pretty good if you can find a quiet place that hasn't been run into the dirt by all the boat traffic. Sunday we mountain biked up the Somerville Trailway three miles to the wolf pond area and cut through the wood to check out the Yegua. It was pretty warm so the kids took a dip in the creek I know the water was cold but my kids are very tough and the adventurous type. The kids and I had a great time but it was real work getting back into the creek not to mention getting OUT! The Yegua looks great and I suspect there are more then just a few crappie hanging out in there!

Never fished the Yegua Creek, matter a fact dont even know where it is on Sommerville or how to get there, never heard much about it either, but if you say it looks good then im gonna have to trust you, since you seem to be one of the most productive guys on here on Sommerville. Question is what is the best way to get there and where might the Crappie be hanging out around there? Is it less crowded out there, or bout the same as Birch Creek? And are there trees out there, or what kind of structure do i need to look for if i go out there for Crappie?
BTW Does any one know how Big Creek Marina is doing
Thanks in advance Chris

Well after following this thread for a few weeks, I decided to take my dad, son and another buddy to Somerville on Saturday afternoon. We hit the hump at Rocky around 3:45 and at 5:45 we were back at the boat ramp with a 4 man limit of white bass. The action was non stop. We probably caught over 200 fish in 2 hours. My son is only 8 and his casting abilities haven't been perfected so he was just droping his bait over the side of the boat. I think he was the one who caught the most fish, at least that is what he will tell you. Great day to be on the water with your dad, son and a good friend...

HLS, I think I saw you on the shoreline wading. I was trolling the hump in pecan lake.
Saturday - Limited with 25 good keepers. Threw back around a dozen smaller ones, but still keepers.
Sunday - Took the family. Caught 32 and kept 20 good white's before the skier's took over!
Birch Creek shoreline looked like surf fishing on the coast!!!! No real estated to be had!
