At my first look I thought this was just a bunch of Shad schooled up. After staring at it for a while could this have been a school of shad (Smaller school on the left) and a school of whites (on the right) feeding? Any of you White bass guys that have SI units ever see anything like this. I did not fish it thinking it was all shad ... I'm kicking myself now for not doing so. It was taken from Granger so Whites or shad seem to be the logical thing schooling from there.

Saw the same thing today and it was shad and whites. Still figuring the SI unit out and decided I had to catch them to prove to myself it was whites wink

Interesting stuff. Never seen an SI unit so am very interested in how to interpret it. The image on the left looks like a standard graph (I assume). Odd colors ...

The image on the right I have no idea how to interpret. Is there a place where one can read about SI images? What is the basic principle involved in SI?

Kolban go and download one of ht euser manuals for the Humminbird SI units and they will describe it more. Or look on one of the other many SI forums. Bassboatcentral has one Yahoo has a SI forum.. lotsa info out there.

To me... it just looks like shad. Whites or "fish" look a little mor wavy and spread more... but there could be whits down there...but the big schools are shad.

Curious question??? where is the pic on the left reflected on the right ??
Are the long narrow clouds on the right pic both left and right side bait fish ??

No expert and it's hard to tell with the color of that unit. But I think the larger thing on the right is a tree/crappie brush pile or something simular. The bands are to uniform, take a hard look and it more resembles limbs that go out from the middle and the limbs or not broken all the way to the tip of the object. They are in uniform bands not humped up at all just straight...Posible shad to the left....Just my best guess.. What do you guys think?

So are you saying this? For a little more info we were looking for some condos my buddy dropped here. However, they show up much differently on his 997, mine is a 898.

Throw a slab with a treble hook out and let it go to the bottom, reel it back in, if it doesn't make it back it was a tree, if it has a sand bass on it it was fish, if it just smells funny it was shad.

It ain't easy making it look easy.

In the down image I see brush with shad to the left. In the side image I see a bunch of shad with the brush on the left, and a bunch of shad and a few fish about 50 ft out on the bottom right. You can see they are suspended from their shadows.
