Does anyone have any tips on catching Mangroves at Port O'Connor. I'll be heading their next month. Any and all tips and or suggestions are welcomed. Thanks in advance.

Err...not common enough to be a specific target.

be prepared to lose alot of terminal gear. They are fast, aggressive feeders. They'll take your bait and run straight back into their cover. Take a fast action rod w/ lots of backbone so you can horse them out of the structure.

Most of them you find at POC will be about 6" long. I caught a bunch last year around the old coast guard station. I mainly use them for bait. I did pick up a few big enough to filet at the short rigs.

live shrimp, mud minnows, squid or small finger mullet if they are around the bigger ones will hit up most of that live bait, used to catch plenty of them over at the texas city dike, have not been fortunate to run into them again the ones that are above 14 or 15 inches are fun

Yep, but consistently, they run small. A 3 lb mangroove at POC is gigantic. 14" is large. I suspect they may be more scarce this year after the cold winter. I have yet to catch one at the jetty this year and it's usually loaded with them.

Out here in Florida they love pinfish. If you can find them around the size of a quarter, use them live. If you can only get the big ones, cut them into chunks the size of a quarter and freeline them back into the structure.

I like to get in the water and shoot them with a spear.
