Went early this morning with very little success early on. Arrived at 7:15am but didn't catch a good size keeper until 8:30-9:00pm. Had my youngest daughter and a coaching buddy that is...well...lets just call him a fishing novice. We fished an area that was "easy" fishing for them, but wasn't neccessarily where I would have gone with a more experienced fishing partner. Anyway... We did end up catching a few nice ones up to a little over a pound. Quality overall was very good, but the bite was slow. Another fishing buddy of mine took his two older boys and a friend and they had a little better success on numbers. They came home later, dropped the boys, got more crickets, and went back. LOL! Bite seemed to be best between 10am and 2pm. I will see how they did in the evening and will add their report later. Oh, and the shoulder....it sure is tough to set the hook with your left hand when youve been using your right for 30+ years. It's sore as all get out now, but it was worth it! Just don't tell my doctor.

My family is giving me ac trip to Fairfield as a 73rd birthday gift.
My question to you experts on the lake is this: Is it worthwhile to trailer the boat 200 miles or is there enough bank access to give one a chance to catch some really large Bluegills? I can catch all the 7-8 inch fish I want from Weatherford, and I want to catch some big'uns.
Regards Lilburn

I've never bank fished fairfield but I'd say the boat was needed for mobility and to be able to fish a lot of different water until you find were the bigguns is hiding. If somebody comes on here and disagrees w/ me based on their personal experience bank fishing there then by all means feel free to disregard my advice but that's my opinion anyways. Good luck.

Mark is right.
And the castnetters have thrown their nets all over the 'walkable' shoreline and then some. No telling how many beds they have messed up.
You will want to get away from those areas and get to places they have not been.

Way to go Eric, glad to hear that you are on your way to recovery and found a little time to get in some fishing. Smithhaven, very little bank access, a boat is a must IMHO.
