I recently got a boat, motor and trailer for $550. The boat was titled but the motor wasnt. I checked with TPWD and the motor was titled back in 1992 but hasnt been changed since then. They wouldnt give me the owners name but verified that it wasnt the guys name that sold it to me. It didnt show up as a stolen motor or anything. My questions is how many of you guys that fish here in Texas ever been asked about titling on your motor while on the water? Im trying to decide what to do just use the motor or try and save for a while a lond while and buy a motor with a title. Its only a 6hp going on a 16ft v hull boat that im fixing up.

gumby pokey says.. would be illegal, and he's not that type...save up and get you a legal motor.. If the guy you got it from, knows the guy he got it from ,you might go that way

every "good deal" on a boat or motor may have a thorn in it. The "no title" or a title in some other yah-hoos name is the thorn. I got burned once ......never again.

Go to TPWD website and under BOATING FORMS you will see a "querry for ownership". Enter the necessary serial numbers and it will come back as to the last registured owner. Send the last registured owner a nice letter explaining the situation and also include a 144M form, a 504 form, a 314form and a limited power of attorney form. Then walk into TPWD and do a quick title. Tell him you will pay for all other fees, and also have him sign a 144form. Now that you have the title, send it regristured mail with a SASE, to the guy and have him sign the title, Now go back to TPWD and do a transfer of ownership.

Or do it the easy way, find out if titles were required or optional when the motor was made, if it was optional, and the game warden tell you you need a title, the tell them to get you one.
COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

Ok so I did go to tpwd web site and looked up the previous owner of the motor. then went online and found His phone number in the white pages and gave him a call. The man was real nice said he would help me out with the paper work if I sent it to him. Im going to see if the motor will run before I go through all the trouble of getting the title. Is the forms you suggested they only ones I need. Thank you for the info!

I understand both sides of it. I want to get it titled if possible as long as it not to much work for 2 reasons first just not having to deal with any hasseling from game warden and second it would prob sell for more when I am ready to move up in size of boat and get rid of it. But I have done a bunch of work to the boat and dont want to wait months before I can go fishing so was curious if I could get away with using it untit all the paper work get taken care of

Go by your local TP&W office and ask a warden if he has EVER asked for a motor title like I did. you are not REQUIRED to carry one, just reg. Just about everything is possible if willing to jump through hoops and PAY the price, sorry Im not for waht boils down to a piece of useless paper. And yes Ive baught motors without titles AFTER runnin serial # through TP&W web site and sold them by showing buyer samething. Most came up no record guess that means NEVER TITLED
