Okay maybe I might be a little more than bothered. My brother and I were fishing and we found a tank dam and my brother hooks a nice 5 lbs bass. A guy proceeds to turn on his boat and goes right by us, say 25 yards (over where we are fishing), and look at his fishfinder and marks a waypoint and then goes on his merry way. My thought was are you kidding me. You could have at least waited for us to leave.

What do you think? Jerk or it is fair game?

Tihnking about it a little more, maybe just fair game. Now if he started fishing by you, then no doubt a jerk.

Not illegal, just kinda chickensh*t though. It is what it is, don't let them mess up your day. Keep fishing.

Just remember what that felt like and try not to do it to someone else.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

People have always done it by looking at landmarks or stumps or something else to mark you by. Now its just so obvious. They just drive by without shame and push a button. It bothers me but its just part of it I guess. He could have stopped and fished it with you, and some will do that. And yes I know its public water. Like texas_82 said its a matter of ethics and some dont have them.It does not bother me so much that he marked your spot. Its how close he got to you to do it while you were fishing. Without reguard for what it might do to your fish.

i would love to invite anyone who would like to come over while i am fishing a spot. it would make me feel good that someone had noticed how great i was fishing. maybe he has a spot that he could share with me, making me a better angler.

I think you see where i am going with this.

all i want to say, fishing IS the only sport in the great USA, where people with the same ambitions can and should become friends! don't judge until you know him. he may have just started fishing and wanted a little help. GOD bless he who spreades your word! Turn every aspect of your life over to the Lord and your pains will be gone and great fishing friends will found! May God bless you and your families to night!

Different strokes. If they bother you, scream 'em out. You'll feel better about it.

What bothers me the most is that this type of behavior seems to have become acceptable through out our sport. Do the crappie, carp, and catfish fisherman have this much trouble getting along?

Not acceptable!!! I think that it bothers tournament fishermen more than pleasure fishermen. People will always try to cut corners and not put in the time to find there own fish. If they come within 25 yards of me after I had caught a fish. My next cast is in their boat hopefully bouncing off their $2000 graph they just punched the way point on.

Screamin' is more fun and cheaper. I think if you strike another boat it might be considered an assault.

What they did was too obvious. I have that happen often but don't let it get to me. With side imaging you can record and mark locations in an entire cove while idling at 5mph. While prefishing I tend to idle through a cove and record everything to the SD card. I then move to the mouth of the cove and play back the recording to mark what looks good. I'll not jump anyone's spot but if it's a row of docks I'll mark the ones with brush and sometimes people will be on them...Oh well. I mark them because they have brush and not because they are fishing it. Same thing for coves. I'm not stealing anyone's spots. I'm finding my own potential spots and you might just happen to be on one. I probably wouldn't fish a spot during a tournament that someone was fishing during prefish because chances are it's getting beat up every weekend. A lake only has so much cover and structure. The little green fish tend to be attracted to specific cover and structure. We green fish anglers follow them and often we'll find the same spots. What makes the difference then is lure selection and technique. What they did was too obvious but at least they didn't roll up on you and start fishing. I've had that happen many a time too.
