I was thinking about going to Bridgeport this morning, but I decided to stay close to home. Got on the water at 7:20 AM, and found fish schooling at the break by the island. First 8 cast all had fish on, I knew it was going to be a good day! No monsters, but a few nice ones with mostly dinks. I had 32 in an hour and could have had more but kept fighting the wind. I saw a couple boats go by me and out onto the flats. Not sure if they didn't see the fish schooling or if they were looking for something else. So I left the little ones schooling and did something that I normally never never do, I headed to the north end of the lake to see what I could find. Went as far as I could towards where the river comes in, couldn't really find anything just wanted to see how far I could go while the water was up with no floaters. Decided to throw out a couple of rattle traps and troll back home in hopes of getting a Bridgeport Hybrid that made it's way down! On my way back, I saw the water just exploding. I could tell these were much bigger fish than what I caught that morning, they were actually coming all the way out of the water. I threw my rattle trap right into the middle and immediatley pulled in a nice sandbass. This continued for about 20 minutes and I never caught a single fish that I wouldn't keep. I didnt plan on keeping fish but these were really nice so I kept a few fat ones and a couple I hooked really bad. After the schooling stopped they stayed stacked up and I slabbed for almost an hour and a half. They moved all around this slope quite a bit but never left this general area. I can't really explain where it was at, but past Lakeview Marina against the east side shore line. Water went up a nice little slope from 14ft to 6 ft. They were on the slope at about 8-10ft. I will post some pics as soon as I find my phone cord. They were so thick, I caught two sandbass on the same rattle trap! One interesting note, the shad by the island were less than an inch long, the shad on the north end were over 2 inches long and had MUCH BIGGER fish under them. Maybe I've been fishing the wrong end of the lake all this time? Jonathan

I think that's where Johnny and Terry did well early in the spring one day when I was a little farther south. Nice report Jonathan

Have caught them there a couple of times but not very often. This year has been hard to pattern and explain. Johnny

Great stuff. I especially like the picture of the two fish on the one lure. That must have been quite exciting.

When I hooked those two at the same time, I thought my dream had finally come true.............a Hybrid on Eagle Mountain! Oh well, I guess I will have to wait for more rain and for Bridgeport to let more water out.

Good job. The biggest Sandbass that I've ever personally caught have always come from North of West Bay Marina.
