I GOT MY POWDER PAINT IN THE MAIL TODAY SO I DECIDED TO TRY OUT EACH OF MY COLORS AND ONLY ONE OF THEM JUST INCASE THEY TURNED OUT LIKE THIS(OR WORSE). I PUT THEM IN THE OVEN AT 356* FOR 13 MINUTES. I PULLED THEM OUT AND THEY HAD A LITTLE DRIED PAINT ON THE END FROM HANGING UPSIDE DOWN. ALSO I DIDNT COVER THE JIG GOOD ENOUGH I GUESS.
IF YALL COULD GIVE ME SOME TIPS, CLUES, AND ADVICE I WOULD LOVE THAT!!!!!!!!!!
HERE THEY ARE scared .........

If your just starting or playing with the powder coat, I would start with a lighter and a pair of pliers.

Do 3 or 4 till you get the hang of it, and then try to do batches.

A count of 4-5 dip it and hang it. Done. You can finish them off in the oven to really cure them, but i rarely do that.

I powder coat mine as they come out of the mold. It takes a little longer, but the jig head is heated evenly, and easy to coat when its that hot.

mthew, the curing or baking isnt mandatory.Just try coating them till you get comfortable with it.I know alot of folks do it,but I dont and my jigs will still hold up til I loose them smile

They are right your not getting them hot enough and even. Those heads need either a heat gun or torch to get them hot enough to coat good, you can even heat them in the oven and grab them out and coat them,it is a slow proces to do em that away but it works good. Also make sure to clean those eyes before you bake them.Good luck.

If you use a torch be careful. It won't take long to melt the lead. Shoot me a PM if you want to come by and I'll show you the way I do mine.

Use the pliers to hold the eye. Heat the head and swish it in the powder. Be sure to stir powder before using as it fluffs it up and keeps you from using too much at one time. By holding the jig head by the eye with the pliers, there is little or no cleanup on the eye and it make it easier to use. Good luck and take Dink Dodger up on his offer....Sloedown was my teacher and DD was his....DD will get you making some cool stuff.....This is a great forum and lots of good folks here with talent!!!!! that want to help.

Try a candle instead of the lighter. Expand into a fluid bed when you can to keep the paint from being too thick.
