What is up with Gibbons, is it me or does the fishery seem in decline. Also what happened to the perch in the lake they seem non-exsitent, and talk about a lake over run with gar jeez I knew it was bad last year but it has gotten worse. At least the tilapia seem to be doing well. soap I know I am ranting but I like gibbons but something has to be wrong with the fishery because there should be no way that gibbons fishery is that far behind fayette county (btw fayette one of the best I have ever seen). Okay im off my soap box now.

It took me a solid year of fishing it to have confidence enough to catch bass on a regular basis out there. I have not fished since late April (working in Louisiana) but I fished 6 straight days, catching fish everyday. My two personal best came the first two days I fished, 8.20 and 8.11 in two different parts of the lake. I have not seen or caught a tilapia the year and a half I've been fishing out there. I've read about them, but I have not seen them. I'll be moving in the next couple of weeks and will miss it.

i fished there the first part of may and caught 25 with the best being 8.3. i did however see a lot of tilapia and a lot of guys bow fishing for the tilapia. i also saw a lot of gar. however the bass were there as well. really enjoyed it, but i would not put it in the same class as fayette. as far as the perch, i am not sure, but when we launched i saw a guy with a stringer of the biggest crappie i have seen in a while.

We always put about 10 in the boat but every bass we caught was always beat up. I personally think the amount of gar in the lake hold it back.

I have been fishing Gibbons and Fayette about 25 years each and they have both had there ups and downs.

The plant runs every day of the year 24 hours a day except on outages.

I didn't think they ran it all winter. Just cranked it back up in like April or something. The water during the winter got down in the 40's

I'm wondering how you can tell if the plant is on line running or not? What are you looking for?

Fayette and Gibbons run/online all the time except for maintenance. All 3 units at Fayette and 1 at Gibbons. Most of the time.

The tall towers are stacks for the exhaust off of the boiler, some plants have scrubbers and some don't that is the difference whether or not you will see the steam.

I hope this helps.

Also Gibbons has been on the upturn for the last 4 or so years.

To you guys that caught the 8+ fish...

I have fished there regularly for the last couple years and the biggest I have pulled out of there is like a 6. I know the lake as well as anyone with the amount of time I have spent on it! I guess my question is, were you throwing a C-rig? There are only a couple spots you can even throw a C-rig into deeper water is why I ask. The rest of the lake is shallow.

Saved by the Lord... glad to be an Aggie!
