I sort of feel the same way. If they really needed to be paid more for the trip, they could just charge me more and I would be happy to pay it.
If I rent a car and really like it, I don't consider tipping Avis.

I was just jacking with Matt... he is a great guide and the last trip we went on we flat tore them up... we tipped what we could afford at the time... but we booked him a month later with two more guys.. So I would say if you are happy with the service tip these guys with the most your pocket- book can handle... plus word of mouth goes a long way.

Maybe set a bounty on the fish landed or total weight ... that sounds like incentive to me (I don't do that ... I'm a 20% kind of guy).

Tipped our guide in Maui $20 for trolling us around in 1 gaint circles all the while reading the looking at the spreads, reading the sports section, talking on the phone to his girlfriend, friends, His booky & everyone else & their dog. Man what a disippointement! Only $800 for a chance to catch a fish of a lifetime is what they said. When the other couple on the boat finally did catch 1 fish the captain didn't even know that they had a "fish on!" No complaints on the captains hand. He was Johny on the spot! A real hustler! On the way in I sat with the captain to find out more about what he knew. Poor guy keeps complaining about not having any money. hmmm Go figure. A good guide is worth EVERY PENNY!

All tips are appreciated. I have tipped $50 to $100 on trips, split between party members, but I have tipped $100 on a trip that was just me too, but it was well worth it.

I have and have not tipped guides. If I would book another trip he gets a tip (20% or more), but if at the end of the day I don't feel I would use him again he gets no tip.

I have used tons of Guides - If I think they did everything they could to put us on fish (worked hard - moved till we get on em) – Yep I tip them BIG. If we limit out and then go to another species – Bonus Tip.

Then if we are interested in learning how to catch fish, where and why and techniques – Triple Bonus tip.

Guides work hard and what they ask for a fishing trip just meets the bear minimum, tips are appreciated and really expected.

Ya I tip Big – for those that I think deserve it (that’s what lets them know they did a great JOB),

DITTO on what Mark Parker said!

I don't expect a tip but it sure makes you feel good when you get them. I have some customers that never have and some that always do.

Personally I always tip my Barber does anyone else do this?
I know how it makes me feel when I get tipped!

I think you could throw a rock in any direction from where you are standing right now and find a dozen guides who totally and completely disagree with the expectation of being tipped.
You may have mistyped your remark.

Yes sir,

That is what makes a Guide’s Day – a Tip.

I’ve had killer days with multiple limits – killer days (with Stripers/Hybrids Limits & White Bass limits – plus Crappie and /or bunches of Blue Cats – An old my God Day! - and then nothing – no tip), and then you have just one of those trouble days – not so many and you still get a great tip (still get a great tip).

Guides do remember those days with not catching what we should expect – I feel like I owe them and you bet we will try just as hard or harder next time (Ya we remember that).

We always try our best – Always – but just some days are better the rest (but tips are always appreciated – if we worked hard) - you be the judge.

So what does a tip feel like banana I did GOOOD!
