After reading on the post of sideimaging, I was just curious in which sonar is better between Humminbird and Lowrance HD's. I know that humminbird has sideimaging but does Lowrance have it also. Was just curious what everyone thought about it.

98% of the guys in the crappie section use Humminbird.
Yes lowrance makes sideimaging also but it is called structure scan.
Both are great units.
Now let the fun begin!!!

Times up. If it aint a Bird it aint worth the trouble of havin'. They don't break often and when they do, they get quick service. There has to be a reason most of the guides on this forum use Humminbird. Think about it, this is their livelihood. They have to have dependable equipment backed by great service or they are out of business. They can't wait 2-3 months for help.

The only opinion I have is based on what I've read here. IF (and the owners have to quantify the IF) the 2 are created equal, I would opt for the 'Bird due to the $150 savings. At BPS, the 10" screen units with all the bells & whistles compare thus; $3150 for the L. HDS10 w/SS module & full Navionics and the 'Bird 1197 with full Navionics is $3000. I'd go for the Bird and have $150 left over for Rocky Tops. The lesser units have the Birds leading as well due to the Lowrance requiring the SS module @ $600. Sure wish I had the bucks for even the 5" Bird

I'd like to just add my 2 cents. I've owned Lowrance sonar units for better than 40 years (flashers, paper graphs, and LCDs) and still swear by them, as I run an X27 on the bow of my boat, where it has taken a beating for the last 2 1/2 years with zero trouble. But when I bought my Lund 2 1/2 years ago, I choose Humminbird for the sidescan....cause that was the only brand with the SS. At first I wasn't too thrilled cause there were bugs that needed working out (mostly with me). But I am totally glad I made that decision, as my 997 has NEVER given me one day of trouble, and has accounted for boatloads of crappie. So my bottomline is; if you want a SS, get Humminbird. If you want a sonar/GPS, get Lowrance. But if one or the other of them ever get their s*** together on the complete package....that's the way I'll go, so that I can link em up.
