I'm headed out tomorrow. Will fish 2 or so days from surf or jetty at surfside just depending on how good fishing is from the surf. I've heard sharks in the 2-3' range are biting pretty decent but I've heard that before and been skunked so will have to see. If anyone fished SLP or surfside sunday, any updates for us?

Fished Surfside surf this last Saturday. New to surf fishing so my non-catching experience may not be because the bite was off. Water was muddy. Fished dead shrimp in the second gut and caught several whiting?(I heard some people call these sand trout) Some of them were about a pound but the rest were smaller than that. Put cut mullet on the line to try and catch a shark but no bites. Lots of people I had to work around and almost impossible to just stick the rod in a rod holder...had to wade out and hold the rod to keep the line out of the way which is a real pain when the waves are crashing. Lots of baitfish swimming up and down the guts but no big splashes. Didn't see anyone else catch fish..this was from 3pm-dark. Not sure where exactly we were on the beach as I just drove until I found a opening in the cars. Going back this Saturday to try again. Did not try the jetties as I had my wife and 2-yr old son with me and they wanted to play in the sand.

I fished Saturday from about 6am til noon. Live bait situation was HORRIBLE. Shrimp were tiny. I usually freeline shrimp in the second gut and clean up on specs and whiting with the ocassional smack and red thrown in. Surf was rough and the tide was high. Standing about waist deep on the first bar and waves were crashing over my head. Caught 2 whiting back to back and then NOTHING. Drove down to drum bay and threw the cast net and caught some mullet and croakers. Went down to SLP and waded out as far as I could freelining croaker and shrimp around the pilings on the bridge. Again nothing. Went back to the surf and caught one more whiting. Didn't go to the jetties so I have no idea if anything was going on out there. Water was muddy and rough with lots of weed.

wed 6/16: got there about 1200hrs, water was pale green, calm waves. Stopped @ about 1/3 way out to get my tackles together, caught a few blue runners. Walked out to the end of the concrete block, fished the bay side for a while but nothing bit. Talked to a guy that came back from further out, he said people were catching a lot of blue runner from the bay side and specks in the ship channel. I turned around and tried the ship channel, hooked into a 16" speck immediately. For the next 20 - 30 mins had 6 slot sized specks in my cooler, must have released 7, 8 undersized. Then out of nowhere the wind changed direction and the bite stopped altogether. Moved back to the bay side fishing for croakers for bait, then put on some big circle hooks and cast for red from 1830hrs to 2000hrs. Nothing

How was the seaweed situation? It was super thick a couple of weeks ago. Thinking about going back tomorrow if wave report is decent.

Went to Surfside Jetty this past Monday and Tuesday night. Caught at least 20-25 trout, 9 keepers, one just under 7 lbs.
