Congrats!
Buy you a pair of fish gloves, the kevlar type. They will keep you from getting nasty bites and cuts from the scales while handling it. Also get one of those spring things that holds the fish's mouth open for those days when you acidently gut hook a bowfin.
Just wait till you get on a 10+ pounder! They are game changing fish. After you hook a few all other fish seem like sissys!

Ive caught many of them off of 175 at cc while fishing for bass there. They like crankbaits and at times spinnerbaits. First one i caught was on a crankbait and when i finally got him to me since i was wading at first thought i t was a catfish till i went to his head to get my crankbait back and he opened his mouth lol. Needless to say i took him to the bank to get more control to get my bait back then let him go. He was easily 10lbs and all mine from cc have been in the same cove in early to late spring. May still be in there but never fished in there after the bass and crappie move out of there.

You still fish with bait? Yep. Works better than fake insects made from Christmas garland.
Where punters are punted.

If I was a hunter I would never shoot a deer under a feeder. I would use Buck Jam. You probably wear a hat with horns on it.

I use to fish for Barracuda in SoCal, we used 6" steel leaders so they would not bite off, do you use the same for bowfin?
