I was fishing the trinity river in trinity park in ft.worth today. I was fishing with carp dough bait. I hooked something really big and fought with it for over an hour. I had 12 pound test on and a medium light action rod. This fish would run strip off line and then seemed to lay on the bottom and not move until i started to real him in. it would then make a long run and strip more line. I never did get him to surface so was unable to see what it was. It was huge whatever it was. Finally it broke my line. It was the biggest fish i ever hooked into. So was it a catfish yall think.

using dough bait i would suspect it being a bluegill that was nibbling at your bait then a large flathead ate him and got the hook as well could have been a very large carp as well
fish to live and live to fish

long runs sound like a carp, but sitting on the bottom sounds like a big yella cat

I'm just dissapointed that after fighting it for an hour you didn't get to land it. I'm just waiting for another post from a chap who was fishing on the opposite bank telling the same story but when he pulled his line in at the end with his 20lb test ... all he found was someone else's tackle on the end of his hook.

ha ha, i didnt see anyone on the other side. i had people lined up on the banks watching me fight this fish. It felt like dead weight when i was reeling him in and it was like he wouldnt move then he would take off. I never hooked anything like it but im guessing 30 pounds or so. I really couldnt say but i fought him along time.

If I can SEE what it is before it gets off.....then I'm ok......but if I don't get a look then my mind just boggles and I wonder......WTF!!!!!!!!!!! Welcome to that club! You are in good company!

Snapping turtle or yellow catfish.
There is no such thing as "too much" fishing.
