 Starter motor not kicking up to flywheel need help !!!!

I have a 200 hp 1990 mercury starter not kicking up to flywheel you can pry it up with a screw driver and it will work for a while. Is there anyting i can do to make this stop doing this. Thanks for any help !!!!!

Clean the gear shaft up and put a few drops of machine oil on it. Do NOT use WD 40 !...and dont use much oil.

Generally when the starter wont engage the bendix is a sign the battery is getting weak. Try a new battery or charger if the oil does not work.

Does any one know how many crank amps a 200 hp merc. needs ? Thanks for the help guy's.

At least 600MCA I would just get a 1000MCA battery and be done with it.

If the starter spins and the bendix goes up but hangs ir does not go up the bendix is probably bad. Had similar problem last month.
