Yep. Precision pile baiting. You said it yourself Donny. "The buffs push out the carp." If 10 lbs of bait is put in a pile it has the same attraction and scent trail as 10 lbs spread out, right? However, how many fish can dominate a pile? Only the biggest one is my answer. Of course you can catch carp with this method, when the buffs aren't around. Donny, you are known for your clipped and precision spodding. When I spent all that time watching you spod I wasn't admiring your shirt.

the rig that you use jason, it took me 20 minutes to tie that rig, and i had to have 3 different materials, and your rig is in the us carp mag. i just dont think you need that special of a rig to catch buffs. thats all im saying im not saying anything bad about it or you.

The helicopter rig is definitely a good for distance. I couldn't say for buffalo as I am just learning about them.

Fellows, that it the second time that someone has hinted that I said that a reverse combit rig is required. I have never said, once, that it is required to catch buffs. I will say that it is the very best rig for catching buffs and it is the rig that I use. I'm not gonna let anyone put words in my mouth.

maybe I should have posted this in the carp section I think you are right about this one Stephen. You did make it very clear, at least twice, that you don't want this section to exist. Why are you here?

I think that Chris's rig is much like the reverse combo, with the stiff hair and hookline next to the hook. More like a hinged stiffy, perhaps, but it clearly seems to work well. Of course, without testing a 'proper' reverse combi next to Chris's rig, its hard to say for sure.
I think the point is that while the both rig will work for both buffs and carp, the shape of their mouths and their feeding behaviors are different, so the rigs could be optimized differently for each.

I think you guys are way overthinking this. I mean hell, I don't even know what a reverse helicopter combi whatchamacallit rig is.
The reason chris and Jason have caught so many buffs is because they go to the right place at the right time. Winter, go to Austin and fish with the rig you have the most confidence in. Summer, don't go to Austin. Go to Ray hubbard or grapevine.
It's all about patterns, not rigs

After watching Jerome's videos and seeing how many times carp can suck in and blow out a rig without getting hooked, but then a proper rig hooking many more fish, I have to disagree. It could be that you are in the right place and just not hooking the fish. The right rig CAN make a big difference. AND, you need to be in the right place!
