I'm looking at a 20010 Chevy Silverado with a 5.3 V8, six speed transmission, tow pkg. and a 3.08 rear end. Will this setup pull a 19 ft. bass boat, tandem axle and 150 Merc. well? Thanks for your help.

I would think you would want a little taller gear. 3:42 or so.

New PB: 10 lbs. 13 oz. Lake Falcon
Old PB: 10 lbs. 4 oz Lake Falcon
PB: Ind Sack 38 lbs. 4 oz

I have the exact same setup in my truck it should do just fine with what you're towing, the six speed transmission is the key here. A 3.08 axle with the 6-speed (4:1 first gear) will launch very similarly to a 4.10 gear with the 4L60 (3.06 first gear) and not like the 3.23 with 4-speed. It will also turn much lower revs at highway speeds than that 4.10 gear with a 4-speed. On the same day with the same road with the same driver and the same 5.3L motor, I'd bet my arse that the 3.08 6-speed truck would outrun a 3.73 4-speed truck to 60 mph, and once you got to 70 mph, would get 2-3 mph better fuel economy rolling down the road.

Final Drive ratio is what makes the difference. The rear end gear plays a huge role in this. But trans gear ratios and even tire size have an effect as well. With a 6 speed, I'd bet you'll be just fine with a 3:08 rear gear.

If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space!
