How close is too close to another angler? I was fishing early this morning 3/4 of the way towards the end of a 50' to 60' dock and a boat came to the same dock and sort of boxed me in. The other boat anchored at the end of the dock and was casting on the same side of the dock that I was fishing. I know this is crappie fishing and not bass fishing but I was just wondering if fishing 20' from another angler would be considered too close?

That is too close. A one ounce rattle trap will cure it pretty quick.

My love is Bass fishing, but i do alot of crappie fishing as well and i know in Bass fishing at least 50 yds is typical. Now having said that, this area dosn't seem to mater to some anglers. I have been Crappie fishing and apperently there is no limit to how close you fish to other anglers. I have had Crappie fishermen come with-in 5 to 10 feet of my boat. But i will have to say i dont realy mind that, when i am Crappie fishing because i have met some realy interesting people.

He would have moved if it had been me. That sounds about right. I wouldn't have "cut up" too much but they would know how I feel about DBs.

I have more than one spot on that lake. I was the one who ended up leaving. If I would have spoke my mind or anything like that and things were to have gone south, I would have been outnumbered. Plus, my boat trailer also has the name of my boat. They could have done something to my vehicle or trailer. I caught a few and went to another spot. It just gets to me that there is almost no ethics these days. I don't feel like I own the water or any part of the water, but a "do you mind if we fish this side" or "we aren't crowding you are we?" would have been nice. I won't even go to a spot if there is another person there.

fishing a dock or brushpile it's rude if somebody comes right on top of you like that. Most of the time there is one sweet spot on a dock or brushpile and not enough room for two boats. On the other hand during the winter fishing at Lake o the Pines I don't mind if people are right on top of me because we are usually all just fishing the channel or the flats off the channel. Actually makes it more fun getting to talk to 2 or 3 other boats while everybody is catchin em.

just be really friendly and respectful and scream... ARE YALL GONNA JUMP IN MY GRAVE TOO? or.. AM I IN YALLS WAY?
COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

50 feet is generally the tourney rule in both crappie and bass fishing.

ya...thats too close man. i personally wouldnt have been able to remain quiet..and i wouldnt have been the one to leave. u did the "right thing" and probably a better man than i for having done it...cause i woulda said something. maybe not to over the top trying to start a fight...but i would have voiced my displeasure in some way. I probably would have just asked if they wanted to climb aboard and fish outta the same rig to save on gas.

If you are trying to cast in the same location in such a way that it might get tangled on a wild cast(or great cast), it is too close.
A few weeks ago we pulled in a whole pillar set away from another fisherman on palestine and he asked "where y'all goin?" but i could tell he was angry at us fishing his "spot."
Basically, what I said above is the limit. They are called public lakes for a reason.
Some people just like catching. I like fishing.

Also, if they are close enough to throw a lit cigarette into their boat, that is too close.
