This is for my buddy's truck and boat. His day time running light on his Chevy 1500 won't engage the boat lights. The brake and turn signals work.

I was going over to his house later tonight to help him look at it. Do you guys think this may be a fuse blown? Any help would be appreciated. I had heard there were 2 different fuse box locations on Chevys but don't know if that's right.

Thanks.

I don't own a Chevy but fuse is always the 1st place I look.
Other than that, if he did any kind of wire job recently, he may want to double check to see if he hooked up the wires correctly - if it be on the end of the tail lamp or the plug. Also check the wire from the light back to the plug to make sure there is no bare spot where it could be grounding out or has been cut/come loose.

Thanks Holzer. He just bought the boat from another friend of ours and it was like this when he bought it. I don't think he has done any new wiring.

I don't know that much about the chevy's but has he tried just turning on the regular lights to see if they work then? The trailer lights work off the tail lights so do they light up with the daytime running lights to? I was under the assumtion that only the headlights came on for the daytime runners. noidea

My Chevy pu had fuse boxes under the hood and on the driver's side of the dash. The one under the hood controlled the lights.

Might not be a fuse problem, if all the truck lights are working. Maybe not a ground wire problem either, if the trailer brake and turn lights are working. You might want to pick up one of those $8.00 doohickies that has a probe you can stick into a wire to see if it's getting juice, and test the wires on each side of the plug, and the wires connecting directly to the trailer lights.

My Z71 DRL will turn the marker lights on the trailer on, but not the tail lights.

Ok. I'm not familiar with Chevys either because I have driver Fords for the last probably 8 years. I didn't know you could turn the lights on other than the day time lights. I will check that also. I do know when you turn the hazards on the trailer lamps will flash.

When I get over there tonight and I fix it by simply turning on the lights I'm gonna rub it in pretty good! Thanks for the help guys hope that fixes it.

I don't know exactly what year they started doing this, but there are separate fuses for the trailer lights and if I'm not mistaken a fuse for running lights and a fuse for brake lights.

the daytime running lights should not turn on your trailer lights. your trailer lights should only come on when your regular truck lights engage. this is normal. nothing to repair.
