A good set of waders for one and also some raygaurds to be safe. A wading belt with one or two rod holders but its really up to you. Now on lures its kinda hard to say whats good ad whats not since everyone has "there" lures you know, but anything from Gulp shrimp, saltwater assasins, bass assasins, mirrorlures, rapala xwalks, norton sand eels, just to name a few..the possibilities are endless. You can even catch specs and reds on "bass only" lures too. Its just really the matter of you trying a few lures here and there to see what works for you.

oh yea that too what peter suggested, also a knife too incase u get stuck in the mud (like me lol) and have to cut your waders off from the legs to get out (yes yall can laugh now), and another thing i forgot to mention on the lures, alot of lures in almost any color with a chartreuse colored tail will work good, also some in strawberry or red with a white tail works good also and maybe a jighead with a rattle on it like the rockport rattler (thanks trout scout), or even without a rattle which ever u prefer, also one of those floating fish net things to put your catch in while u still wade or just a fish stringer which most wading belts come with and with pliers too...ummmmm waterproof sunscreen, water( most wade belts have a built in drink holder), and someone to wade with also, i personally dont wade alone but thats just me, other than that all you need is confidence and patience. so yea, i know my writing sux but hopefully you get what im saying, i know i dont write good but hey its just the net. Good luck to ya

If you don't buy ray guards, remember to shuffle your feet while wading and not take steps. Also, don't back wade into your mud trail, that's where stingrays might be. A long stringer 30ft or so to provide a buffer from porpoises/sharks.

Wide brim hat
Waterproof sunscreen
A couple of topwaters (Bone)
A couple of soft plastic lures (rootbeer(aka pumpkinseed)/chartreuse, plum/chartreuse, or pearl/chartreuse
extra jigheads
pliers
sunglasses

A wading belt is nice, but not necessary. I tend to just use my pockets and go. A wading belt will also allow you to bring an extra rod. Typically, I don't carry a net with my while fishing.

I wade a lot. Myself, ray guard booties, wading belt. I don't like stringer - I prefer a closed cell syrofoam ring with heavy mesh bag and closure. Floats in water to keep bait or catch alive. Includes rod holder and tackle box with 10' cord. Used for wade fishing. This way nothing to eat your catch.

If you ever fish West Matagorda, or fished the surf anywhere when the sharks move in, I guarantee that a do-net will get eaten.... Trust me, I've had it happen.... Heck, I had a 6' Blacktip playing tug-o-war with the 5 gallon bucket I was using for a stringer last weekend...

Yea,If sharks are around they will take a stringer as well as a basket. Just make sure you can unattach yourself fast!

What are ray boots... What are they made of? are they rigded? If so on a rocky bank are they hard to move in?

Ilove wade fishing but only do it once twice a year and just go shoes and jeans... last time in port A we fishing around the first bridge right before the farry just before dark in water just over knee high on me I had something big bump into the back of my left calf then turn with one good kick moved away I about jumped out of the water when it happend my first thought was I was just a chicken and my stringer. With. A red and some good specks had bumped into me but when I look I relized it was tight pulled as far away the full 15ft cuz of the current that had started I made about 3 more cast then my mind got the best of Me and my friends and I booked it back to the truck never saw anything no idea what it was. Just know I didn't like it...

I use Foreverlast Reef Boots with Foreverlast Ray Guards. The boots are thick soled and armored up to just around your ankle. The Ray Guards wrap around your shins from your ankle tops to just below your knees. The boots allow me to wade around oyster shell reefs with confidence. The guards give me peace of mind concerning sting rays.

Never back step, stay out of excessively muddy areas and shuffle your feet. Don't drop bloody mess in the water from bait or hooked fish and have a way to cut or disconnect your stringer in a hurry. Keep a nice assortment of lures. Topwaters, shad imitators, soft plastics and spinners. Wading has it's risks but, it's one of those things that done right the reward always outweighs the risk.

Wow, I had a Sting A Ray pass within 1 foot of my leg in about knee deep water couple days ago. It was easy 3 foot wide. The tail was massive. Let's say, I walked on water.

You guys forgot one of the most important things. OFF! Take OFF you will need it! LOL! I dont fish with bait when I wade fish because of sharks...Its always bait fisherman that get bit! Sometimes They will come close because they are after same thing you are but they dont like to share! at min a 25ft stringer!
