I was taking the wife this weekend on our annual camping/fishing trip to the guadalupe and decided to try the lower guadalupe instead of the upper this year. Was wondering if anyone knew of decent fishing spots aroound the south part of the lake or down the guadalupe between the dam and I-35. Im not particular about a certain species of fish or size, I just care about putting her on fish so she can have some fun. Any help is appreciated! fish

Thanks...

The area below the tailrace is very nice, and once you go a couple of hundred yards or so, you should have it pretty much to yourselves. (With your back to the dam, the path would be along the right bank.) Some deep holes here and there, and some large fish have come out of them. I'd plan on catching a few perch there, and fishing them a couple of feet off the bottom in the holes. Maybe carry some frozen shrimp in case the perch won't cooperate. The path's pretty good, but I can't see lugging live bait down it. Very scenic area, and you can go a good ways before you reach the "keep out" signs.

Also the River Road area is very nice. It's all private property but nearly all the places will allow you river access for a small fee (usually around $4 /person.In New Braunfels you got Lake Dunlap which is accessible from the Faust St. bridge not far from downtown. I always manage to pull a few fish outta there.

Perhaps I'd better clarify that the area I'm talking about does not offer the comforts of Guadalupe State Park. There are no picnic tables or portalets. It is more of a primitive wildlife area. The trail does not run along the bank, and accessing the bank from the trail may ocasionally require some measure of determination. Jimbo seems to be the resident expert on this area, and you might want to shoot him a PM.

I don't know that toobers have access to the area I'm talking about.

Another area on the dam side of the lake is North Park. I've caught a few largemouth on soft plastics off the drops offs along the northwest side of North Park Point. Not sure about the current status of public access there, though. You will see people fishing below Overlook Park, but I've never seen anyone catch anything there.

I just meant Canyon Lake and the Guad in general. Was there last weekend and FM 306 was backed up onto I 35 both North and Southbound.

The area Duff is talking about is a very nice area. You can Google canyon lake tailrace for more info. It's where TPWD stocks trout in the winter.

There is a...well they call it a pier; I call it a bulkhead...on the side opposite of where duff is talking about, but besides stocked trout I've never had much luck there.

Thanks Cypher and Duff! I'm loading up the RV tonight. The wife and I will be headed out tomorrow early afternoon. We are staying at a campground on river road called Lazy L and L, never really seen it, but read a psitive review about the place online, so we'll see.... I planned this trip after a major weekend hoping the crowds won't be too bad because they'd be all partied out from last weekend...lol. I'm planning on hitting the spots you mentioned at the trailrace, etc. Like i said, i'm not too worried about catching anything big, just want to put the wife on fish. She's 1 for 1 at the guadalupe and outfished me last year(because i let her who_knows). I'll definitely report back to you guys and let ya'll know how it went. Thanks again!!!

Went to Crane's mill pier this morning. There was 3 other guys there when I showed up about 8 o'clock. They were using live minnows. I threw one pole out deep with shrimp for cats and used jigs and Gulp minnows in the hole. Real slow for about two hours, five fish between the 4 of us(none for me frown ). They gave up and left and gave me their minnows so I tried them and a couple minutes later I felt that Thump! Lift up and felt weight so I set the hook. Lo and behold it was a crappie. banana Put an another minnow and a little later, thump, another crappie. This went on til I ran out of minnows so I used some small frozen threadfin shad and they liked those too. I had to jig them a little but they worked. thumb Around twelve or twelve-thirty they just shut off. Ended up catching about 20-25 but no keepers, Caught quite a few that were about this short:

Also caught a few that were little. I took this picture cause it looked like something chewed on its tail.

Also caught three little blues on shrimp. All in all it turned out to be pretty good couple of hours. They say it gets really crowded on weekends so I don't know if it would be a good place this weekend.
