I wanted to try some chili powder sweetcorn and chili maize before Marty and I run out to a new pond tomorrow I already know has some big carp in it (thanks Cyprinus for alerting me on to this one). I am kind of confused on how much powder I should use or is there a set amount. I also have a bunch more spices I can add, so anything else that would work? I have 2 cans of carn to experiment with

thanks in advance!

Try about a teaspoon of Chili powder per can. Mix it in real well and let it soak in it overnight. You want to be able to smell the chili powder on the corn after it is on the hook. You could do one can strictly chili powder, and in the other maybe mix a little garlic flavoring with the chili powder.

I get the cheapest walmart chili powder at 50 cents per jar. When I make chili maize I use about 1/4 of the chili powder in the soaking water.

Good luck.

Good plan Austin. Experiment and see what works best.. It is rewarding to catch fish on a mixture that you came up with on your own.

Yeah, it's still pretty firm. That is actually a plus as it stays on the hair almost indefinitely unless turtles get to it.

It should be just soft enough to get a baiting needle through it.

I figure that my maize is ready when I can take a kernal and split it lengthwise between my thumbnail and my index finger. I doubt that it will ever get much softer than that.
