Heading to San Luis Pass for the first time since Ike. Have fished there a good bit over the years, boat and beach. My favorite spot was from the beach, Freeport side, just inside the bridge a hundred yards or so. Looking at Google earth though it looks like this whole area is filled in with sand and only a couple feet deep. Am I right? I will be staying at the RV park this time and looks like fishing from the concrete bulkhead may be the best access to deeper water. Any ideas?

I was there Tuesday. People were wade fishing the area you're talking about. The lights at the park are back on and you should be able to fish off the bulkheads at night.
Some serf fishermen were killing the trout just up the beach towards Sufside, freelining croaker.
The birds and the guides follow mr out

Thanks for the info. I like trout as much as anyone, but my main target is big redfish and sharks. I like catching big things, whatever they are. I usually fish cut or live mullet.
