Peyton isn't the best ever. But that isn't up for discussion here on the bass forum. +1

It's all who gets the better information given to them on BASS. They are both excelent fisherman, but if you put both head to head on a lake they have no knowledge of and not spoon feed any information with one day of practice KVD would come out on top. I would have to take Reese especially in this scenario. He hardly ever pre-fishes and he still manages some big sacks. Although he may come of cocky I still like him at least he doesn't yell at the locals to get off his spot like Martens did last year!

All you gotta do is watch 'em fish. KVD is more crisp and precise in his presentations. KVD has better focus. KVD is stronger. KVD has more presentations per minute. It's not even close. Skeet must have the best of information 'cause he wouldn't even be noticeable on most Texas lakes.

fz1 normally I totally agree with 99.99% of what you say, but here you are waaaaaaay off base
skeet has perfected some patterns kvd didnt think of. On clarks hill, skeet was throwing swim bats in 2-6 feet of water for prespawners. Had to be wind blown, near rocky banks....and no one was even coming close to figureing this pattern out. that is precision! he grew from a precision/crisp background with western clear waters. dont kid yourself about that.
only place I give kvd a large advantage over skeet is on smallies. but if we were fishing for giants on the west coast, skeet evens the fight.
as far as focus goes... you dont get to where either one of these guys reside in the bass fishing, without incredible focus. I love me some kvd and not trying to say he isnt incredible but you arent giving skeet enough respect in my opinion.
The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope. ~John Buchan

I'm just speaking of the mechanics of each, and KVD is superior. Really,I'm not a big KVD fan,but he is the best mechanical angler I have seen. Skeet is mechanically ordinary.

Guessing if you look back at some of KVD's wins you can find a similar story where he figured out a pattern nobody else found and walked away with the win. But that is just 1 event, there have been lots of events won by other pros that you can say the same thing. Yelas won the 2002 Classic with Big Bass all 3 days. I remember Tim Horton coming in very early at Champlain one year and didn't even fish 1/2 day the last day. He even went back to the dock and had pizza with his kids and took a nap in the afternoon. But 1 tournament does not make a career.
I am more of a Bass fishing fan than a KVD or Reese fan. I think you can learn a lot from watching how these guys fish and implementing some of what they do. KVD's trademark to me is his efficiency on the water. Just like Rojas can put a frog in places most won't even try. Brauer and his jig. Reese can do a lot of different things very well and adapts to the conditions and what the fish are doing. But doesn't have a trademark fishing style that I can see.
I guess the original question was who is better KVD or Reese. I think the numbers speak for themselves, KVD has been better for longer than Reese. And even the last 4 years when Reese has come on the sceen, KVD's numbers overall are just as good if not better than Reese's.
If the question was who would you rather be a non-boater for in the old system where co-anglers competed against each other. I think Reese would be the answer for me. I am not sure I could catch fish behind KVD just in how he fishes. I think I could catch a few behind Reese as he does seem to fish areas over specific sweet spots. I could be wrong, that is just what it seems to me. I have a feeling it would be tough to be behind either of them, but with the speed KVD fishes, I would think there would be areas you wouldn't even get a cast in before he was off to the next spot.

I agree. Easier to catch fish behind that color coordinated Calafornia boy, than KVD.

I like SR and he is hottest right now. But, KVD has the numbers. I remember KVD figuring a pattern out on Rayburn about 10 years ago that was as specific and precise as the SR swinbait pattern this year. So, both these guys superiority is between their ears, not mechanics.
I think KVD is off some this year because he ran the table last year and his focus is off some. Next year will tell the tale of whether those competetive juices are still flowing. Conversely Skeet probably feel jilted because of last year and came on like gangbusters this year to prove a point! Its all about focus .
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

Skeet will have to stay at the top for a while longer to take it away from KVD. I am still a Rick Clunn fan, and think in their primes he would have come out on top.

I don't think anybody can touch Reese this year. Wins two events and looses one by an oz. Then is in the lead at Pickwick and the day is shortened and he locking out, and doesn't have enough time for his fish to turn on. ON FIRE!!!!!

I Imagine with AOY and Classic championships, KVD is being handcuffed this year more than ever with public appearences, and has not had the TOTW that Skeet has had. Or, the lakes have fit Skeet's strong points more than KVD's, or maybe Skeet's support team and network is stronger this year.
