We went out to a cove on the north side of the lake. Had something either huge or something decent size with teeth break my 60lbs spider wire. I'm thinking it was a big gar because it was pulling out drag when the line broke which I thought was odd and also I caught 2 smaller gar later in the evening.
We also missed 3 other several large fish from either not getting a good hook set or the line breaking cause of drag not being set right. Both rookie mistakes but they will be remedied next time I go (tomorrow). We did end up catching a blue somewhere between 12 and 15 lbs around midnight along with several eater channels.
We went last week and missed 1 very large fish right at the shore. He looked around 10 lbs when we saw him break the water.
All in all we havent landed many big ones at this new spot but it is looking very promising and our bite to catch ratio is about to increase with some drastic gear and strategy changes.
Ill get a pic of the big blue from last night up as soon as I can and give you an update on how we do tomorrow.

I agree...i have a big hole at that lake that has been hot for months. Too many to keep so i throw many back. its a great lake. the north end near denton creek is the best area by far.

I caught several last year about this time with punch bait under a slip cork just left of the sandy beach area near the creek. The gar were really thick up in the creek several weeks ago.

the reason you are not hooking em or the line is breaking is because its spiderwire I have heard some bad stuff about that.

I'm gonna head out to teh vine this afternoon. Debating on sandies or catfish but now leaning toward cats since not much seems to be happening with sandies yet in my spots. So north side of lake near creek is the ticket? Anything happening with cats near the dam this time of year? Last year we caught a bunch near the bubbles drifting shad.
