I am new to Texas (been here a little over a year) and I am wanting to fish this great state. I live in Wise County and I have a 3 1/2 year old and a pregnant wife (due in August with a little girl!) so I cant go real far, but I would like to get into some of the fishing waters around here. Someone was telling me about how pretty the Brazos River is south of PK. That is about an hour and a half away from me and I was just wondering if it was worth the drive. Had also thought about taking one last family trip in June with just the 3 of us before sis got here. Seen that there are cabins for a reasonable price range. Anyways, as always any and all info is appreciated!
If we aren't supposed to eat the animals, then why did God make them out of meat?

Good fishing all up and down the Brazos. Sometimes depends on the water release out of PK. Bass, catfish, perch. Ask some of the locals
Biden famously said in the New York Observer, โI mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, thatโs a storybook, man.โ

I'm not sure about the Brazos below PK, but, the Brazos below Lake Whitney can be phenomenal. Spots, smallies, catfish, etc. 100 fish days are not uncommon. All you need is a kayak or a canoe and get ready to catch 'em.

It is a good time. Lots of fish, and you don't have to deal with the boaters like on the lake.

Is there any crappie in the shallows? From the pics I saw there looked like there were quite a few riffles where they would hang up and eat downstream.

I have fished the river below PK quite a bit over the last 5 years or so,and it has been one of my favorite spots. Ive done good with largmouth, sandbass, striper, and catfish. Have not caught any crappie down there, but im sure there are some.
However, I have heard that the golden algae bloomed out there and killed off alot of fish. My brother did a float trip from hwy 16 to hwy 4 about a month ago and said there were tons of dead fish all along the river. Bass, stripers, sandbass, carp, buffalo...just about all of them. Texas parks and wildlife told me that they algae bloom was on the decline and the river was getting better...but i have not been out there since then to check it out and see if the fishing had gotten better...The few times i went before that I had terrible luck. Spent the entire day and only caught one small bass.

Highway 16 to Highway 4 is certainly a pretty float. Read Goodbye to a River by John Graves for some of the local history.

Fishing the Brazos below Whitney has not been to good this year. They have been letting water out 24-7 for the last few months in order to keeep the lake down while they do some repairs on the damn. It has the fish all spread out and not to mention the river is up and flowing which makes it hard to fish some areas unless you have a good trolling motor. But in years when they are not letting water out all the time the fishing can be great.
