On the news this morning, a man drowned in Lake Conroe last night when a storm capsized his boat. I have road out several storms while tied up under the 1097 bridge at Conroe, but I don't think I will ever try it again. Trouble is, they can hit so suddenly you don't have time to get to safety. I thought being tied up under the bridge was the safest place, but now realize that may not be true. Thanks for sharing this experience. It may just save a life.

Glad you guys made it out ok and hope the guys in the pontoon boat did as well. Ray Roberts is no joke when the wind picks up. I think it was about 3 months the wind was blowing like crazy and saw the biggest waves I have road in yet. Didnt think I would make it across the lake and couldn't turn around. Glad you guys are ok.

I know that they can't be right all the time and anything could happen but 95% of the time the weatherman is wrong. I swear most of them couldn't find their a@# w/ both hands.

Glad you and the wifey made it out ok...! Reminds me of a month and a half ago when me and my lady were out at richland chambers. We knew there was gonna be a major front/bad winds coming through that morning, but I really wasn't prepared for how hard it hit. We were in the middle of a timber field and we saw the front coming through... started raining lightly for like a couple of mins and I really thought I'd have like 10-20 more mins of fishing before things would build up... but man... was I wrong... an incredibly insane blast of 30+ mph winds pushed us right into the shoreline and all hell broke loose... the trolling motor was useless and thankfully, thankfully, the shoreline was sandy/muddy and I was able to fire up the big motor and use that to push us off the shore, otherwise, we would've been stuck there, definitely!!! And then as we were making our way out of the timber field - I was praying I wouldn't spear one of those stumps in those huge waves... and the wind was blowing us everywhere but man... at the same time, it was a pretty exhilarating experience... Only speared one wave on the way back to Oak Cove, too! On the other hand... another team (driver) did a kinda stupid thing and they could've paid for it with their lives/boat. You know, the bridge by oak cove's really low to the water, and one driver, instead of going thru the channel area where the bridge's the highest - thought he'd just go through the low part and apparently, in the rough water/waves, his boat's bow came inches from being pushed into the ceiling/upper part of the bridge which I can imagine would've easily caused their boat to capsize...

One lesson for you out of this (I know, hindsight, right?) is to only tie off to an object from the bow. That way you'll at least be able to take the waves in the right direction if something happens.
You had lesson #2 figured out already - keep that knife handy and be ready to cut the rope!
Good to know you both made it ok

My wife and I had a similar situation on Lavon a couple years ago. There was no time to make it to the ramp. We just had to ride it out in the back of a cove lying in the bottom of the boat. It is amazing how fast it can come up on ya.
Glad ya'll are ok.
