Well as luck would have it I broke my foot real bad while we were doing some training at the fire station and I will not be able to stand for a while so bassin' and shooting carp are off of the roster.. With that said I have lived at Canyon Lake since the mid 1980's and know the lake really good. As soon as the doc says I can do a little more(only 20 days into the healing process of the foot) I am going to start SITTING in the boat and trying for some bigger blues or yellows. Is there any info on some depths and certain srtuctures that I might try this time of year for some of the bigger cats. I am not looking to mess with any channels or smaller cats(though any cats are welcome to get on my hook smile . I'm not much for eating them either. I just want to get a few "Big Pulls" and let them go. I can get all the perch and gizzard shad I could ever want so that will be my bait of choice. Any input of what geographical areas I should try would be great. Not looking for honey holes or anything. I now the lake but I have never targeted bigger cats on rod/reel.. Just trot lines when I was a kiddo and a few here and there on rod/reel. Thanks in advance for any info. I also have carp/suckers frozen if they will produce any of the bigger blues or yellow cats.. Thanks...Hank

Go up river and put on the bigest Shad ( 12 - 16" ) you have, keep the big shad alive on your hook for big Flaties and cut up the frozen carp for the big blues. Big hook + big bait = big fish, good luck

The Blues I'm locating are on main lake structure.
15' -20' deep. If you can find mussel beds, they are full of them.

Channels have been in the coves in 4'-10' of water.

Been slow for me up the river.

Liver catched more than most baits.

thanks for the input. I know where some mussel beds are and have some areas that we usually see big blues in while we are bowfishing. I hope to try in the next week or so to get on the lake..Hope the doc says I can do some fishing or I'm going to go crazy stuck here on the couch..lol
