I found this reel yesterday while fishing. It is an Abu Garcia ambassadeur Mag Plus. The only identifiers are the word Graphite and the numbers 89-1 90-91 stamped by the reel seat. I'm really trying to find out when it was made and if it's worth putting on my cool fishing stuff shelf.

Not sure about the year. I would say dismantle it and clean it thoroughly. Make it a backup reel. Lord knows we all have too many of those "might need it someday" parts.

Those were made in the mid to late eighties.

Some of the Abu's made back then came with a LIFETIME WARRANTY, as my two XLT 521's did.

Unfortunately, parts are almost impossible to get unless you find one in somebody's bone-yard.

Great reels, though no instant anti-reverse, high reel seat, and not too many bearings.

Not too many bearings is not necessarily a bad thing. Bronze bushings are easy to clean and almost never wear out...
